Clough doing the right things. Get your signings in early and you don't end up paying last minute prices and panic buying.

All part of that "game changing" investment that everyone keeps questioning. We have the ability to pick up players without having to offload our own first, for the first time in how long?

Maybe it is. Are you saying after years of shit, short sighted strategy that no one has the right to question. Its not like we haven't had false dawns before now is it?

I would hazard a guess that anyone questioning the investment is pleased to be proved wrong.

Just saying that people don't appear to realise how much has actually changed. We all know that Harry would be on a train to Birmingham by now under "normal" (for us) circumstances. Giving credit where it's due is all.

What some fail to realize when blabbing on about this "game changing investment" is this season we need players who will get us out of the third and back into the Championship, it's only then we start worrying about signing players who'll get us out of the Championship...

Without the investment:
- Clough probably wouldn't have even joined us
- Maguire probably would have had to have been sold in January
- we'd be staring at another summer where we were again having to trim the wage bill and cut costs.

I think it's the first summer since Bryan Robson's time with us where we'll actually be spending more than we did the previous pre-season. Considering the downward trend we were still on a year ago, we wouldn't be able to do this without the investment. To take the words from a serial sceptical poster from the past, it's not rocket science.

not seen an influx of players like this since Warnock built the prem promotion team

I was thinking about that myself. We similarly that summer went and tried to pick up players that were shrewd, cheap, and effective for that level without being the type of big signing people had clamoured for. Short, Shipperley, Gillespie and Unsworth added to the experience and on-the-pitch leadership, Ifill added the flair and creativity he'd displayed already at that level, and Lilian Nalis provided...I forget what. But the point is we didn't go overboard, we strengthened around the decent parts of the team, and had options to change it when necessary. You had a strong nucleus to the team, with leaders throughout - any of Morgs, Jags, Monty, Short or Unsworth could have worn that armband at any stage of the season. We haven't had that sort of solidity and strength of character for quite a while - possibly not since that season in fact.

I think we've covered most of midfield and defense now and expect a couple of strikers to come in hopefully.

We're in talks to sign Wallace from Tranmere, according to Nigel's latest interview. I suspect, as I have often suggested, we are moving on from Michael Doyle.

Doyle will move upfront pinchy:D

Currently got 3 CB's and an injury prone LB. Still need at least a RB and then some cover for both Full Backs. Freeman and Davies could be useful for that with Freeman starting RB then being able to switch to LB as we've seen with Davies being able to fill in a RB. Although would prefer some more solid cover
