Walsall Advertiser says we are in pole position to sign him. Good signing if true.

The stir does aswell http://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/sheff-utd/sheffield-united-andy-could-emerge-as-a-target-1-6632227 . Don't think this will prove to be owt unless harry's out. If big H is going then somebody will have paid a hell of a lot of money. We rejected a £3.5-£4M bid from Dull and god know who else. UTB;) :harrymaguire:

Be a good signing, Walsall only conceded 49 in the league and if you look at teams who were around them they conceded 60+

That's what Rob Staton's suggesting. Interesting signing this - seems like some genuine competition for Collins & Maguire for the first time since they've been paired together. Another option for on-the-pitch leadership too if he's been any good skippering Walsall.

If it's confirmed LoughboroBlade, it's on a free too. Great bit of business if that's the case

No idea about this bloke. Seems to be another Div1 specialist and squad player.

I like the thinking behind spending money and young talent and having cheaper experienced options alongside. Just hope we get a marquee signing or two to maintain the excitement.

Seems this guy is Mr Consistent, JD, so should be a good addition.

The cynic in me wondered if it's in anticipation of selling Harry?

Hopefully not, given his age, would be to add a bit more experience, bring Tel Kenners along and provide a bit of competition to keep harry and collins on their toes

I doubt it. If we were selling Harry, I'd expect a younger, more expensive signing to compensate. Hope I'm right...

my thoughts too regards a quality signing

Don't want to suggest this is a negative, but I can't find evidence of this anywhere. I asked the OP for a link and not heard a thing as of yet. Hope I'm wrong as Butler would be a good addition to the squad.

If it happens I don't see this as an either or situation re Butler vs either Collins or Maguire. It gives the option of playing three at the back with wing backs (Freeman? Not Brayford :) ) as NC did some matches last season.

Butler being 30 and living in Donny may see SUFC as his best chance to get a promotion in the later stages of his career. A two year deal will suit him I guess - to be close to home for the first time in ages and with a realistic prospect of playing for a big club primed for a successful run.

I posted last season that we should look at Butler..

I think he's a great leader and a bloody good centre half who'd provide much needed cover at the back.

Just been speaking to a Dad in Penistone ( make what you will of that) who is of the opinion that it's Collins role that would be under threat from Butler.

Don't you just love intrigue. Have a happy speculative bank holiday forum chums.

That makes sense DD. Collins did well last season, but I can understand why he might be regarded as the player who's position might be up for grabs. A big season ahead, and Cloughie is busying himself in preparation for the moment when everyone returns for training in July.

Would be a good signing for us, ball playing centre-half with a left foot. We also need a leader on the pitch and somebody who can "talk" to the younger players during the game.
