I didn't rate Francis when he was at Utd previously and really haven't seen anything while he was at Bournemouth to change my mind. Surman is a steady central midfielder but wouldn't get anywhere near Utd's side.

I'm sure CW is aiming for much much better than those two.

I saw an article where he talked about his time at the blades and the tone of it if I remember was - "I was young and acted like a dick, but I've grown up now.

As a player with PL experience who could play on the right side of defence he'd be OK.

Injuries in recent years and 35 probably means we won't

As cover there maybe some value in Francis, as an alternative to Jags, but I'm not sure how good Francis is these days, he's had a few injuries.

There's always a good old un though out there as we know from the past such as Cowans, Stuart McCall, Wayne Allison and my personal favourites Bob Booker and Mark Patterson, the latter I think's worth a photo as he never gets a mention much these days but he was heroic for us and clearly get what it is to play for the club.



Before anyone says anything, I know that all of the above names were when we were in the Championship, but there's still older players who can do a short term job for us, but saying all that, not so sure that Francis and Surman are one of them! haha!

Even after selling him to Southend Warnock said Francis had all the attributes to play at the top level. At times the team was crying out for his qualities and I couldn't understand why he didn't figure. I spoke to a coach at the club who praised his ability, but added something like "to make it at the top level you also need .... mental strength". In this period I went to watch trainings sessions at Shirecliffe in consecutive years. The first year Francis was very loud and enthusiastic, the second he looked like he was hung over.

He's done well at Bournemouth, but is clearly past his best now.
