Alongside the 'Blackwell Out' and 'Should He Go On Saturday If...' polls, maybe we should redress the balance with a 'Given the current re-profiling, dismantling of the squad, reduction of the budget and sales of any half decent players we have, can anyone guarantee that it would be better with a different manager'.

No, but if you keep putting diesel in a a car that runs on petrol it won't go. Eventually you work out that it might be worth trying something else. You've nothing to lose as the car's going nowhere at the moment anyway.

True but my point is, the diesel will be going in the car for the foreseeable future so is there any point in changing the driver ?

The driver is the one putting the diesel in the petrol car. Yes, change him and get someone who realises that!!

Is SAF The Stig?

At 108p per litre the least we can expect is the car will run properly.
Perhaps the driver is not aware that the car needs the right octane of fuel to make it run smoothly.
A new driver may be more aware of the mechanics of an internal combusion engine.

Maybe the new driver will realise the need for go-faster stripes on the wings?

This was my position until the last few weeks. We wouldn't get anyone better to do the job.

But the Newcastle and Barnsley games and the Cotterill rumours have changed my view. The manager we have is not playing our best side or getting the best out of the players we have. He has also alienated one of our key players from last season.

Like when we replaced Heath with Warnock, we need someone to hold the ring, as it were. They don't need to do anything radical. They just need to stop wrecking what's already there.

Or when Blackwell took over from Robson !

Yes when blackwell took over from Robson he DID a good job. However united as a team on the day have been found out, tactics and style of play. We currently have a manager not capable of changing things around, because he is out of his depth at a club of this size and the ambition of the fans.

Situations change and you have to have the right manager for your present situation.

When he first arrived, Blackwell showed he was capable of managing that situation. Undeniably, he did a good job at that time. Unfortunately, things have moved on and he no longer seems capable of dealing with what faces him.

And I do take on board the long list of injuries that we have had. But it is up to him to manage that. Just as it is up to him to ensure that the defence (and other areas of the team) is organised. That is what he is payed rather a lot of money to do.

I agree but continuing the point of this thread, I just think people need to bear in mind that replacing the manager would not neccesarily right all the present wrongs. In the 4 months post Robson it did but we're only 18 months down the line and a hell of a lot has happened since then which any manager would have struggled with. I can't see much changing behind the scenes unless Mr Birch knows something we don't.

You are of course quite right. A change of manager doesn't always bring about a positive change in fortunes.

But, I am very concerned at what may happen if Blackwell remains manager. We have been leaking goals at an alarming rate for the best part of a quarter of a season now and there is no sign that that will change. Blackwell cannot help the fact that at various times players have been unavailable. But he is responsible for ensuring that the side is organised. It isn't. And it hasn't been very well organised defensively for a long time now.

He is showing the same inability to change his defensive organisation as he does for changing tactics in the middle of a game when the original plan isn't working.

If Blackwell remains I think the only way we will go is backwards.

With all that talk of petrol and diesel - send for Dr Emmet Brown he has the answer with his Mr Fusion reactor

The only defence (pardon the pun) for Blackwell is the constant team changes in the past 2 months, I don't think we've played the same back 4 two games running. This is why, given a good run of availability, say a defence of Kyle, Morgs, Killa nd Naysmith, and he may just get 'til Christmas. If the run continues WITH the returning players then I agree, he will have nowhere to turn.

Changes to the back four will obviously have an effect. But 24 goals in 10 games? There really is no excuse for that. Even changing every member of the back four in every one of those 10 games doesn't excuse that quantity of goals conceded. The defence should still be organised enough to avoid that sort of leakage. And let's face it, some of the teams that have been banging them in against us are not very good themselves.

Whatever the driver, our fans need to realise that we've now got a Ford Focus not a Porsche 924.

Ah, but it doesn't matter what the car is you've still got to work out what fuel it runs on, and our driver isn't very good at that!

Right.

Really fed up of this thread!

As a fully trained Vehicle Technician......all cars are crap which ever fuel you put in them and most drivers are crap too.

:D

The driver started out pretty well and has only recently had a problem in steering the vehicle.

Perhaps all that's needed is a service and MOT and a bit of patience starting up the car in these colder, winter climes?

That or the engines gone :)

Or, to stretch things even further regarding the team and off-field enterprises, we're about the equivalent of a Trabant 2 stroke engine in a McLaren body.

No, the driving's so bad I can only conclude the vehicle is being driven by a drunk driver. He needs a lengthy driving ban.

Hmm, a Blackwell full of oil could refine which ever fuel he wants it to run on!
Then again there is always my Fusion, as i recall a near empty can of beer and a banana skin made that run. that could tell its own story.

After 30 odd years in the motor trade let me tell yer a secret..............
cars are a waste of money.

Buy a bike ! :D
