Am I the only one who does not want SOD?

SOD has got dreadful PR. A mogadon brummie accent, quiet, doesn't say funny things about players or clubs, doesn't seem to shout much, in fact you hardly seem to notice him much at all.
But if we want to try and create long-term success based on a style of football that fans enjoy watching, he might be the man. If we want this throughout the club, from the academy up, he might be the man.
It's a risk because he might not.
The alternative is sticking with what we know, an archetypal Blades Way boss, who might keep us up this season and then might stabilise us and have us scrapping to find a way into the top six. That would be ok but we've had that for 15 years now and in that time can anyone really say that many of those years have involved attractive, really worth watching football?
For me, on balance, SOD is worth the risk. If it doesn't work, the likes of Adams, Scott and some of the other usual suspects will still be out there.

Hands up those who wanted:

Warnock out - fed up of the football
Robson not to get the job EVER and to f*ck off as soon as possible
Blackwell getting the job was both a suprise and a disappointment but felt we would not be relegated with him charge
Was totally bemused at Speed getting the job

The next appointment is one of the most important in the clubs history.

I think we've had it for longer than 15 years. It's been the Blades Way pretty much since 1988.

This was a big criticism of Robson, I seem to recall. People complained he watched games impassively People were clearly not used to having a manager who doesn't behave like an overtired three year old when watching games.

A look back, if I may: Denis Clareborough once wrote that Dave Bassett perhaps "tried to do too much" when he was first appointed in early 1988. I always took that to mean that we were in so much trouble that it would have been better to try to adapt what we had rather than tear down completely and start again, a job perhaps better left for the close season. Whilst Bassett is my favourite Blades manager and hardly put a foot wrong in the next two seasons, there is some force in this criticism I think. Whoever is our new boss will not be able to do what Bassett did due to cost and the transfer window but I do wonder whether someone like Adams is better suited to getting the best out of the squad we have now than someone like O'Driscoll is. And yes, I realise this is more of the same and many want passing football (or, more accurately, passing football that gets results) but the most important thing is staying up and the top priority is appointing a manager who achieves that. Relegation cannot be a good thing for us as long as McCabe remains in charge and has no intention of providing funds.

Nope. I've been shouted down many times for suggesting that S O D may not be the messiah that some see him as.

I also don't remember getting a great deal of support in not wanting Speed appointed as an unproven inexperienced manager.

My choice would be between Chris Wilder and Micky Adams as they both have good experience of relative success working with lower league teams with no cash. They are used to being in the situation that our new manager will find himself in, whoever is appointed.

having said that, I will fully support whoever is appointed for as long as they are in the job because to do otherwise is a frustrating and futile exercise and whatever the shoe wavers think it makes no real difference.

One game doesn't make him a good or bad manager. It's what he's done over a season that counts. Not that our fans would give anyone more than a couple of games before they're moaning. In fact some will be moaning before we've even appointed a manager. New Manager Out!!!!

I can see the merits in both SOD and Micky Adams. I am just glad they are taking their time and not just appointing the first idiot that turns up ala Robson.
