Did we play this at the start of games at BDTBL many years ago, or am i as the title suggests ?

It used to be played before every home game. As the story goes we only failed to play it once during the 70-71 season (against Hull) and that was the only home game we lost.

Shit, think i was there that night ? I was Bramall lane upper tier, we lost 0 1. Really bad tempered game, at one point the Ref lined the players up in a line with their backs to B.Lane stand. TC outstretched his leg and kicked this Hull player behind the knee, the guy fell like a sack of potatoes whilst the ref was giving em a talk to for just that, i was only 12, but i remember the Hull supporter coaches got stoned to f**k leaving Sheffield. What a season that was. RIP John Harris.

We lost 2-1, not 1-0.

I'm sure your right about score, i know it was the only game we lost at home. Was that the season we beat Ipswich 7 nil or 7 one.,,, and last game we beat Watford 3 0, sorry, stoned and rambling UTB

At least we will be getting our cheap season tickets next year.:) Think Ipswich was in the 1st the year after? Watford definitely 1971, I invaded the pitch!

It’s been played more recently than the 70s too. I don’t think the team ever ran out to it but it was defo played before kick off in the 90s/00s

Seriously, 60 + gives you cheaper ST ? Well, probably give that a miss living in Thailand, although i could probably fake it , come back to UK and stay with my big sister, problem is she lives in Beighton and iv'e been there before :(

We lost 2-1, not 1-0.

I was there that night as well Hull's Ken Knighton kicked seven bells out of a young Tony Currie. Unfortunately for him TC was one hard case when it came down to it, and Knighton learned the error of his ways at a later encounter. ;)

To show what an absolute arsehole Knighton was he went on to play for the Massive.

It was the night Simpkin & Knighton butchered us we scored early ,Gil Reece I think. All hell was let loose then with ref calling all the players together on the halfway line for a lecture .Didn't stop Hull continuing there thuggery and we completely lost our composure and lost 2-1.That was the last game we lost in the run in to promotion. The next game was QPR away losing 2-0 and looking a beaten team .with 2 minutes to play Woody scored with a deflected shot and Bill Deaden won a penalty almost straight from the kick off Ted Hemsley scored and we got a vital draw .After Dave Powell got his .knee injury allied to the Hull result we looked a beaten team, and to draw that game against QPR seemed to galvanise us we never looked back and went on to clinch promotion

Dave Powell looked some player. That injury effectively ended his career .

Quite an apt SUFC song, really.
Along with the sunshine, there’s gotta be a bit of rain sometimes...
Have to disagree with you there Danny. I'm off now to find a more suitable song with lyrics about years of tropical storms in it. Or, maybe there's a song with lyrics that refer to it being a blazing hot day and then when you're least expecting it, a typhoon strikes.

Behave yourself Razor ;) I've lived in several different areas of Sheffield in my time and the top Blades without a doubt were in Beighton. Lenny (RIP) and the lads ran coaches to away games from The Cumberland - great times

sorry buddy, 60 yr old memory not so good, especially as i persist in the finer things in life, well matter of opinion i suppose, oh wtf who cares, we got promoted UTB

It doesn’t matter. As the great storyteller put it:

There either is or is not, that’s the way things are. The colour of the day. The way it felt to be a child. The saltwater on your sunburnt legs. Sometimes the water is yellow, sometimes it’s red. But what colour it may be in memory, depends on the day. I’m not going to tell you the story the way it happened. I’m going to tell it the way I remember it.”

Play your football the Dickens way...
