Hi everyone :hello:.
Yesterday I spent an evening in the local pub with a few blades and a few of our blue and white trotted friends. All of whom are a bunch of good mates, as you do subjects drift between us and finally arrived to Sheffield football.
What I heard in most of the conversation I thought was extremly short sighted and a little ignorant.
I cant remember every word of the debate and I didnt have a tape recorder like a shifty journalist but I would like to post a few of the topics discussed and what was said for your opinions and input. Why ive brought it up here is because ive also heard the same opinions from other places and i believe that many are not taking in the full picture.
Kyle's Debate
Now what was said in this debate was as expected, most of the blades were angry with the club for selling them and didnt agree with what went off.
Now in my eyes and another blade and the pigs we all believed it was an excellent decision im sorry but a championship club that has just lost parachute payments has just recieved an offer of £8mill for 2 unproven players is purely irresistable. Yes maybe we should have hung onto them for another season, but, what if theyd flopped next season? we would have lost £8million. They said about the £15m from west Spam but like McCabe said this will go to running the club and will probly cover the parachute payments. At the end of the day we are in a credit crunch and need to garantee that were not going to drop back to the state we were just over a decade ago. I believe enough is said on this topic.
Beattie
This one really got on my nerves, due to the kyle debate it got onto the sales of beattie, hulse and stead. Now the sale of beattie, although he was top scorer where were we in the league? and after the sale where did we finish up. In my opinion i think other players were unhappy the way beattie was treated like god and paid double and even triple what they were paid. It seemed as everthing tended to be moulded around beattie and that the players just didnt like it. Sell beattie and the team performed and acted as a team! Together fighting for each other. The only thing i didnt like about the beattie saga was that i believed he was undersold, why? no idea but there is some reason.
Hulse And Stead
Now this really wound me up when a blade brought it up, he said we have no hope and should have never sold hulse and stead! Why ever not, they didnt perform, the crowd started to get on there back and quite frankly they couldnt hit a cows arse with a banjo. Rob hulse scored 8 for us in the prem after 20 odd apps ok good record however the next season played 25 all together and scored 0 overall i believe it was 50 apps and 8 goals. Not very good giving reason for sale. Ok so hes banging them in a derby, but they dont play the same football as us.
Stead was the same played 39 and only scored 8, Still its not great for somone where after 20 goals minimum from.
Sharp
Now a lot of people get on the back of sharp especially the ones i was talking to. I am one of the more leiniant ones and believe Sharp could score alot more if we stopped the hoofball-to-tall-lad style. There were lots of rumours about people such as lita, beckford coming and even our now ched evans and wardy. I am very worried that if we dont play proper attacking football ie to there feet these players would end up the way of sharp. Sharps proven he can score goals over 50 i believe for scunny who dont play hoof ball! Even the donny season ticket holder at college said he was by far the best looking attacking player. I reckon if the deal goes through with donny he will bang in a tonne!
The thing that really annoyed me was the way they were saying about the sales of Stead and Hulse and acting as though they were gods yet last season and the season before Billy had the same sort of scoring ratio of them! yet he has been the scapegoat :S
07-08 season apps 36 goals 6
08-09 season apps 25 goals 5
how can you treat 3 players with the same sort of record so differently
Sharp = Rubbish
Stead and Hulse = God
Beats Me??
Now the final one they got to talk about was the stadium. They were complaining about both the redovelopment and the extension saying the money should have been spent on the first team
Im sorry but the development off the pitch leads to development on the pitch its pretty simple!
Bigger stadium = more attendance space = more £££
Nicer looking stadium + Better and cleaner Facilities = More Corperates/Sponsorships/More Fans/Makes us more appealing = More £££
Another business enterprise centre = More ££££
And some of this goes to the team. For example I was reading a article about portsmouth the other day and it read that portsmouth matches are bringing in very little revenue as there is no more space for the extra fans so they are losing millions a year.
Dont forget the plans for the stadium wont be coming in for a few years by which the plans are to get in the premier so set the ball rolling to be ready
Now thay couldnt understand about the enterprise centre, our current one had a turnover of £1million thats great news and another would be great. I was extremly happy from something that i thought did sod all!
At the end of the day our club is looking for the future, it might be a steady pace but we are heading there, in the right direction.
Now im saying to the doom and gloom get McCabe and Blackwell Out merchants shut up get behind your club as you need to SUPPORT to be a SUPPORTer.
It could be worse! we could have a chairman that is relying on a massive investment from some hillbillies and blames there fans when it goes wrong whilst calling them dudes in the process
we could have a stadium thats falling to bits and isnt attracting anything
We could be at the point where we cant afford £3-4k a week to pay a player and let him go to our arch rivals.
And we could have a smarmy twat for a manager
But we arent we are United and where on the up!
Ive had my penniesworth and let out a months rage in one so ill just chill out now
