Hi everyone :hello:.
Yesterday I spent an evening in the local pub with a few blades and a few of our blue and white trotted friends. All of whom are a bunch of good mates, as you do subjects drift between us and finally arrived to Sheffield football.
What I heard in most of the conversation I thought was extremly short sighted and a little ignorant.
I cant remember every word of the debate and I didnt have a tape recorder like a shifty journalist but I would like to post a few of the topics discussed and what was said for your opinions and input. Why ive brought it up here is because ive also heard the same opinions from other places and i believe that many are not taking in the full picture.

Kyle's Debate
Now what was said in this debate was as expected, most of the blades were angry with the club for selling them and didnt agree with what went off.
Now in my eyes and another blade and the pigs we all believed it was an excellent decision im sorry but a championship club that has just lost parachute payments has just recieved an offer of £8mill for 2 unproven players is purely irresistable. Yes maybe we should have hung onto them for another season, but, what if theyd flopped next season? we would have lost £8million. They said about the £15m from west Spam but like McCabe said this will go to running the club and will probly cover the parachute payments. At the end of the day we are in a credit crunch and need to garantee that were not going to drop back to the state we were just over a decade ago. I believe enough is said on this topic.

Beattie
This one really got on my nerves, due to the kyle debate it got onto the sales of beattie, hulse and stead. Now the sale of beattie, although he was top scorer where were we in the league? and after the sale where did we finish up. In my opinion i think other players were unhappy the way beattie was treated like god and paid double and even triple what they were paid. It seemed as everthing tended to be moulded around beattie and that the players just didnt like it. Sell beattie and the team performed and acted as a team! Together fighting for each other. The only thing i didnt like about the beattie saga was that i believed he was undersold, why? no idea but there is some reason.

Hulse And Stead
Now this really wound me up when a blade brought it up, he said we have no hope and should have never sold hulse and stead! Why ever not, they didnt perform, the crowd started to get on there back and quite frankly they couldnt hit a cows arse with a banjo. Rob hulse scored 8 for us in the prem after 20 odd apps ok good record however the next season played 25 all together and scored 0 overall i believe it was 50 apps and 8 goals. Not very good giving reason for sale. Ok so hes banging them in a derby, but they dont play the same football as us.
Stead was the same played 39 and only scored 8, Still its not great for somone where after 20 goals minimum from.

Sharp
Now a lot of people get on the back of sharp especially the ones i was talking to. I am one of the more leiniant ones and believe Sharp could score alot more if we stopped the hoofball-to-tall-lad style. There were lots of rumours about people such as lita, beckford coming and even our now ched evans and wardy. I am very worried that if we dont play proper attacking football ie to there feet these players would end up the way of sharp. Sharps proven he can score goals over 50 i believe for scunny who dont play hoof ball! Even the donny season ticket holder at college said he was by far the best looking attacking player. I reckon if the deal goes through with donny he will bang in a tonne!
The thing that really annoyed me was the way they were saying about the sales of Stead and Hulse and acting as though they were gods yet last season and the season before Billy had the same sort of scoring ratio of them! yet he has been the scapegoat :S
07-08 season apps 36 goals 6
08-09 season apps 25 goals 5
how can you treat 3 players with the same sort of record so differently
Sharp = Rubbish
Stead and Hulse = God
Beats Me??

Now the final one they got to talk about was the stadium. They were complaining about both the redovelopment and the extension saying the money should have been spent on the first team
Im sorry but the development off the pitch leads to development on the pitch its pretty simple!
Bigger stadium = more attendance space = more £££
Nicer looking stadium + Better and cleaner Facilities = More Corperates/Sponsorships/More Fans/Makes us more appealing = More £££
Another business enterprise centre = More ££££

And some of this goes to the team. For example I was reading a article about portsmouth the other day and it read that portsmouth matches are bringing in very little revenue as there is no more space for the extra fans so they are losing millions a year.
Dont forget the plans for the stadium wont be coming in for a few years by which the plans are to get in the premier so set the ball rolling to be ready
Now thay couldnt understand about the enterprise centre, our current one had a turnover of £1million thats great news and another would be great. I was extremly happy from something that i thought did sod all!
At the end of the day our club is looking for the future, it might be a steady pace but we are heading there, in the right direction.
Now im saying to the doom and gloom get McCabe and Blackwell Out merchants shut up get behind your club as you need to SUPPORT to be a SUPPORTer.

It could be worse! we could have a chairman that is relying on a massive investment from some hillbillies and blames there fans when it goes wrong whilst calling them dudes in the process
we could have a stadium thats falling to bits and isnt attracting anything
We could be at the point where we cant afford £3-4k a week to pay a player and let him go to our arch rivals.
And we could have a smarmy twat for a manager

But we arent we are United and where on the up!

Ive had my penniesworth and let out a months rage in one so ill just chill out now :D

I've always beleived that a forum of any type only ever really works when everybody has their own opinions on things, and from this a healthy discussion can ensue. It would be very boring if we all agreed all the time and a bit of lively debate never hurt anyone.

Having said that I have to say spot on Looneytuner, I agree with avery one of your points.

Yeah I'd agree with all of the above. It's all about what is best for the club long-term. i do think the board and the management team make some very sound decisions, and all appear to be well thought out generally.

I do think the majority of blades on here are intelligent fans, ones that can see the bigger picture. Which is quite refreshing. There doesn't tend to be the breakdowns that you see on other forums, where the conversation decends into petty name-calling..

Thanks, that was my main aim to get a debate across and see everyone elses view and to see if it wasn't just me that thought most people had a narrow view on things

Exactly, thats why i believed i could express myself here as elsewhere you get the usual your not entitled to an opinion.
Everyone on here seems to take everyones view into account :)

Billy Sharp Section Added Which I Forgot Last Night... Sorry

Kyle's Debate

I'd agree to a sense, the Naughton sale for me was ok, but selling Walker too seemed a kick in the teeth.

Beattie. The only thing i didnt like about the beattie saga was that i believed he was undersold,

Completely agree.

How you can be an advocate for Sharp but not Hulse/Stead I don't know. You're comparing scoring records, but all of Hulses goals were in the PL and a few of Steads were too.

Stead for me was treat harshly by the Blades, he wasn't given a chance to do anything for us.

The Hulse sale for me was right.... and Sharp should be sold too.

Sorry I came across wrongly there. I agree sharp cannot play our football therefore he should be sold, but it's just how fans got on his back and never seemed to get on hulses or steads.

Seems a bit contradictive on behalf of some of the fans

I think the fans turned on Hulse a bit but not Stead.... Stead for me was never given a chance after Warnock left. He wasn't playing so was sold - which is the right decision if not playing. But I think he should have had a role in the team.

Not often this happens when someone covers so many points but I have to say I agree with every point you make, Looneytuner. Great post, mate. :)

Thankyou, however I'm just speaking from my view of things. I just tend to look at the pros not just the cons

Agreed. I just found it a little contradictive as soon as they left the boo boys thought the sun shone out of there orifice. It's the same when warnock left but I for one ignore the past it's been gone, we had our fun but now lets concentrate on the great, good, bad and ugly ahead. And no matter what I'll still go with a heart full of hope and the blades fire still burning inside me!

Anyways, who needs Beattie, Sharp, Hulse and Stead when we have Bromby :)

Great post mate - I'm another one who agrees with you all the way! :D

I especially like the bit about getting behind your team and supporting them. Was at Lincoln last night and even before the season starts I heard -
1- Criticism of Monty
2- France isn't a footballer in any position
3- Squinny is a Div 4 footballer and should go to Rotherham and doesn't know which way he's kicking.
4- Bromby's shit (about 2 mins before he scored!!)

and that's before we got to the racist comments about Lincoln's black players.

If you're a true Blade, come to the games to get behind the lads - if you're just into the Blades so you've got something to complain about, then watch the game in the pub or somewhere and whinge there, where you can't -
1- Undermine the efforts of the team
2- Get on my bloody nerves!!!

Yeah they should keep it to themselves it does nothing but damage to a teams and players confidence!
And the racism disgusts me, they should be banned!

Sorry to hear about the crap at Lincoln. However, to an earlier point. It is not right to compare Hulse, Stead and Sharp. The first two were at times our first string striker, the arrival of BT meant they could only achieve that again by leaving - which they did. At best, Sharp has never raised himself above a third string striker - wish it weren't so but he just seems to slow to get the half yard he needs (at this level at least) or perhpas there is too much pressure being 'the Blade' and a move elswhere will give him a chance. Don't see it happening with us given his preseason.

Yeah true, I believe the whole beattie saga gave a lot of bad morale around the united camp, and after now being confirmed most of it was down to his agent

Yes. Those people had different opinions on things that you did.

Live with it, and accept it, theres no point bitching about it, because its the way of the world.

I generally dont agree with most of your views, but hey, thats life. I accept that.

I get annoyed at posts like the OP's. Everybody thinks different, it doesnt make them any less a fan, any less intelligent, or any less right or wrong than you are.

I think anybody who is unhappy about the sale of Kyle Walker in particular, has an extremely valid point. Naughton? fair enough. Walker? terrible decision.

I fail to see how i was "bitching", the main reason I posted on here was to listen to everyone else's opinions and to see if I was the only person that felt this way.

Saying that you have posted yours and I value it, it would be a tad boring if we all agreed :)

I'm not sure. I have a feeling (and I hope I'm wrong) that time will tell that £4M for Walker was an incredibly good deal. We'll see.

"The long term"
That's an interesting approach. It's very subjective is that. What do you call long term?...5,10,15 years? I would venture to say that after 10 years perhaps you might be thinking a little differently from your post of today if United are still faffing about in this league.
After several decades you may be an outright rebel.
Believe me I've had the tee shirt and nearly thrown it away.

ALL OVER.....I Think Not!

Morning all
My first post as a newcomer to your board and can I say how refreshing it is to see sensible debate minus expletives and name-calling on a topic which is bouind to devide opinion.
My thought on all of this is that we can debate the rights and wrongs of individual deals 'til we're blue in the face and indeed so we should, but underneath all of this is the question of money and the club's financial position.
I think many people are now very confused about the club's finances as a result of the impression given by recent sales versus recent statements from the board and the chairman.
There are now even suggestions, for example, that no further purchase or loan deals will be sanctioned until Billy's future has been settled! What's that all about? Bottom line is none of us know precisely where the truth lies and whilst most, including me, want to believe what we are told, it ain't always easy to reconcile the words with the actions. Anyroadup no matter what let's just get behind the lads!!
