If Harry Clarke and Rob Holding are gonna take his game time in a league below why would we even consider him for the prem?
Gilchrist will never be a premier league starter

To play where?
By your own admission, he's not been consistent defensively in the Championship. Its widely acknowledged that he doesn't / can't attack from that position.
You say yourself, its not his natural position.

I think he'd be a disaster in the PL. He's still developing.
He was man of the match in a handful of games at RB earlier in the season. Norwich stands out where he was superb defensively. If he can replicate that form which, for the time being at least, I’m going to assume is what he has done prior to joining us from ‘one of the big boys’, then I think he can be a great asset in the PL, where our full backs won’t be doing as much attacking.

Time will tell I suppose because he’s been off it lately and was poor against Hull.

Never been a Premier League starter. He's a ready made Championship RCB. That's his position.

He has t
He gives his a far too much space is slow to react to danger and is weak in the air

He starred off well playing like a third centre back and allowing burrows to get forward more
Was winning all his duels and seemed to k ow his role well but lately his standards have ripped and he isn't getting the basics right
Wouldn't be bothered that he offers nothing going forward except a huge space he can't get back Into
Not sure what his future holds but u Leeds he berfs up he won't be a centra back and doesn't seem to have the power to be a full back
In his early games for us he looked very aggressive and showed a real desire not to be beaten, he seems to have lost that side to his game.
Maybe a spell on the sidelines will do him good

He’s a CH being asked to play a very attacking right back role. For the first 2 months of the season he was bang at it. He’s dropped off lately and had a mare vs Hull. Might now find game time limited. If we go up I would 100% take him back on loan.
I would 100% NOT take him back if we go up, he looks miles off a Premier league player

One the more consistent performers in the team… but has looked tired of late and in need of a rest … still young and learning but overall a 7/10 this season so far.

Needs to improve the attacking side of his game more but defensively he’s sound

Wtf is happening with Gilchrist? Clarke is hardly great and there's not a RB on the bench. I can't imagine for one second that either he or Chelsea will be happy with him not even making matchday squads.

Having a picnic with Arblaster.

Not signing Kenny was a mistake. It's hardly like the new owners weren't willing to piss money away is it

I feel for Gilchrist, but it's the right decision.

It's just a shame we left ourselves in this position. If we'd signed a permanent CB or RB as we'd intended this wouldn't be happening.

To be honest, even if a loanee is injured I'd still have Seriki on the bench over Gilchrist as he offers something different to the rest of our squad and so much more in attack.
The only obvious route back for Gilchrist is an injury crisis.

And the two games either side?!

I know we can only have 5 loan players in the matchday squad but we've got ourselves into a daft situation.

We ran him into the ground and now he's essentially unable to play football for 4 months!

We tried to sign both a RB and CB, but the ones we were after represented very poor value for money
Gilchrist will just have to bind his time, until one of the other loanees picks up the inevitable injury

Alfie done nothing wrong this season, can understand a few games out as he needs the rest but we have no cover on bench for that position
Anel can move there if needed, it's more important for the team to have the other loanees in the squad

Chances are one of the 6 loans injured. Sniper must have messed up of late

He definitely does not deserve to be out of the squad as he has done a very decent job imo. Presumably this has just been a couple of games for him to rest up and re set.
The situation we have got ourselves into with the loan restrictions however is quite annoying.

I actually think I prefer Alfie to Clarke, I think Clarke is bad enough defensively to prefer Alfie over him.... however, ignoring that, he hasn't played amazingly well, he's suspect at times. What makes this tweet amazing ilare the replies 😅. Oh how I miss the hoardes of random tweets from people who've never set foot inside a football stadium commenting that we are a disgrace etc.. be back at it in force next season if we go up, no doubt

I think Clarke has been good defensively other than one half v Pompey where he looked drunk

Agreed - Clarke is also noticeably better with the ball - crossing/passing and a step quicker. Gilchrist would never have played the little ball through the legs of the defender for the o'hare 1 on 1 v boro

Feel like Nigel Farage did after being told I was talking nonsense about Alfie Gilchrist not being good and that Sheff Utd, Chelsea and England all disagreed with me.

Rates him so much he's been desperate for another right back all window?

We have Gilchrist, Shackleton, Choudhury and Seriki that can all play there.. yet we've just brought in a kid of a similar age to Gilchrist...
Let's see if he holds onto the shirt. I suspect he won't.

Yep.

It doesn't please me to say it, but vindicated that the coaching staff saw the same flaws.

It's surprising to me how many have bought into the idea that Gilchrist is great defensively.
He might be in certain one-on-one situations, but he certainly isn't as a general right back.

There's a poll on another thread,
Who are you picking
1 - Seriki
2 - Clarke
3 - Gilchrist.
For me, it's in that order. None of them are great defensively, but that's the order in how well they attack.
