There's some debate as to whether they could afford the 20mil to be fair, because the fans are saying the same - but their lack of transfer activity is making people doubt the 20 ever existed.

Also, their owners are looking to sell, so are trying to avoid a FFP disaster to make the club look a more attractive prospect, making it unlikely they can/will spend big.

'In contract' is the one that really is the difference. AS probably isn't in the last year if his contract and doesn't have his boyhood club flashing it's knickers at him and his agent and him only having eyes for them. If IN had recently signed a 5 year contract with us, was not wanting to go elsewhere or to his boyhood team then we would be looking at at least twice the price that AS is going for. But he hasn't and circumstances had backed us into a corner. Still shit to see though, these much lesser players going for more money than IN.
