They ought to show the video regularly to our players to remind them of the power & accuracy they should seek.
When you see his goals , he usually hits the shot early , doesn't delay to give the defender a chance.
Gets his body over the ball.
Two footed - our players should practice more with their weaker foot.
Never a floaty corner - always hit with power , whether long or short.
And don't forget , that's with the old fashioned ball.

Not all matches were televised. You could make an amazing montage if you had all the unbelievable goals he scored.
Sometimes I look back on old recordings and I am disappointed - memory plays tricks. When you see Woody, he is better than I remember. I forget how fast and direct he was, how he brought others into the game as well as his shot.

My god what a player ,best servant the blades have ever had , Not interested at all going anywhere else his home was the Lane and here he stayed . What a combination Woody and TC . WHAT WORRIES ME I CAN REMEMBER ALL THOSE MATCHES The video brought back great memories of some great players who i loved ,Ten grand Bill Dearden cost 10,000 quid from Chester and scored for fun but who could not score for fun when you have Woody and TC feeding you . Gill Reece another great player who is the best Blade i can remember heading a ball even though he was so small . How much now would Woody be worth ?

Possibly one for Silent. Didnt Woody score twice direct from corners against Coventry in the same game? or was one ruled out for an infringement or something.. I remember Hugh Johns commentating.

One of my first ever matches was hoe to Leicester when he bent a ball round a wall more than i've seen before or since. I was in the old cricket stand, right in line with it so I saw the bend perfectly. No doubt others on here saw the same thing.

The best , thighs like tree trunks , reight shot , coners were unbelievable , wonderful footballer , didn't like adulation or fuss , liked a pint and a fag !!

WHY DIDN'T WE NAME A STAND AFTER HIM WHEN HE WAS ALIVE, SHEFFIELD UNITED FFS !!!

He scored 4 times direct from a corner. v Newcastle (h) in Sept 1969, v Leicester (a) in Sept 1971, v Coventry (h) in Nov 1971 and v Norwich (h) in January. I think he had one disallowed v Bolton (h) in March 1970 but cant think of anymore. Out of the four, only the Leicester game was televised.

Boxing Day 1970. An ex-workmate remembers the goal but he had missed it. He was stood in the Kop. Just before Woody took the free kick, a firework exploded in the Kop, my ex-workmate turned round to look at what the explosion was, then the Kop cheered so his eyes were back on the pitch and he realised the ball was already in the net with Peter Shilton looking frozen still!

Dear old Woody, I not only saw all his career but used to see him and Mick Jones - Ken Mallender etc. in a cafe on London Rd where I worked in my first job whilst they were all still in the Junior sides . Its so annoying when you know the exact spot you were stood in the crowd but no matter how hard you look even with a magnifying glass lol ☺️ I can't pick myself or my mates out so that I can brag to my grandson...:(. Oh well passed quite a time trying haha. Rest in peace great man.

I am not sure about scoring two from corners in one game but he used to do it regular . Always remember he did it against Shilton who was the england goalie and Shilton said it was a fluke so on the returning match he did it again ha ha . His corners were deadly as was his dead ball skills. It was a great team with lots of really good players all over the pitch .

I might be older than you because I can remember Alf Ringstead who was also quite small but a terrific header of the ball

The game you probably mean is the 3-1 defeat at Coventry in 1973/74 when Woody scored a direct free kick & TC did the same but it was disallowed… Hugh Johns was the commentator

Possibly. I remember the game when we were 2-0 up A at Coventry and the game was abandoned. Replay we lost !

The Brilliant free that Woodward scored against Leicester Boxing Day 1970. was the one of the best free kick I have ever seen. not only did he curled the the ball a round the defensive wall, He curled it round Shilton as well. If Roberto Carlos scored that goal it would never be off the tv.

I remember the first game of the season away at Birmingham. Woody scored the winner with a hard shot, a lot of fans behind the goal instinctively ducked. I don't think their keeper got near it. Trevor Hockey got the other goal in a 1-2 win.

Also memorable for the windows on Bert's coach getting smashed.

The game was televised, the only footage I can find on Youtube is Bob Latchford's opener for Birmingham. I would have loved to see Hockey's and Woody's goals again.

I started watching the Hodgy, Joe Shaw, Doc Pace team, but agree the Tony Currie, Woody, Eddie Colquhoun team was my favourite to watch. Obviously for both Gentleman John Harris was the common denominator. Great memories of both teams!

Got the autographs of many from watching them train at Ball Inn during school holidays. Woody certainly liked his ciggies, as many did back then, but didn't seem to impact his game. Best striker of a ball I've seen with his right foot and pretty good with his left peg as well.

Then we come to the current crop. Oh dear ☹️.

Back in 1974 The Hyde Park pub in Dronfield was a regular spot for United players.
When they formed a Sunday League team with TC and John Hope doing the training.
JH managed to acquire a full set of old United kit which he revealed during training.
After a big scrap for the number 10 shirt I was delighted to get Woody’s number 7.
Happy days
