Another hero departs, another part of my life. What an absolute privilege to have seen you play so many times.

Thank you Alan for so many great memories and being such a thorough gent and a hero when there are never many around. Hero and gentleman in the true senses of the words that is.

RIP Hodgy. Seemingly indestructible, worked well into his seventies, and then gone in a blink. How flimsy our mortality... What a keeper, what a lovely bloke.
As kids watching that era train on Ball Inn, Hodgy was always the one to have a joke with us and chat amiably.
Indeed....I had a few chats with him over the last few years and what a lovely man he was!

Oh no my real boyhood hero. The best keeper I have ever seen. My Dad introduced me to Alan more or less on my very first visit. He was an amazing keeper. A very nice bloke too. I used to think as a young kid if he stopped playing for United I would stop supporting United as I could not imagine United without him. Of course he did stop playing and I of course have never stopped supporting United.
He introduced me to his England team mate outside the old John Street players entrance in 1962 when Tottenham Hotspur visited the Lane..That was Jimmy Greaves. I also recall when our family travelled down to play at White Hart lane and we ended up for some reason a few tickets short Alan and Cec Coldwell made sure everyone had tickets.
If only we had players like Alan now we would not be in Division Three would we.
The world is a lesser place tonight RIP Alan and condolences to his family.
