Thoroughly enjoyed that. Cheers.

I just hope he never reads some of the utter bollocks written about him on here, or I'm sure he'll regret leaving behind double the wages at Leeds only to find out that the fans at the club he loves are a set of nasty sniping bastards.
If you mean when it was pointed out how his performances have been sub-standard so far then that's not nasty, only accurate and truthful.

I admire that Billy takes the stick and doesn't let it bother him that much. He scored a lot of goals for Scunny and even gets flack from them.

Right, well I'll point out his scoring record and we'll leave it at that.

Hopefully he'll add to his tally on Saturday and piss some of you lot off in the process.

I think some would rather just have Matt Done upfront running around like a headless chicken on his own.

What is utter bollocks? Look everyone wants Sharp to score goals he is a blade and we all love blades plaing for our team. However that does not make him immune to criticism, if he is not playing well why should he not receive some of what other players get if they aren't playing well.

I have watched him for the last two season and overall he has been a cracking asset to us but there have been times when he hasn't done the business, at times this season he has been really poor. He has missed easy chances or made silly decisions, If you don't like criticism of Sharp don't criticise any other players!.

It's really shouldn't be difficult to comprehend though: yes, Billy Sharp is our leading scorer with 5 goals in 13 appearances but he is not playing as well as we know he can. There were times last season when he carried the team and it's just not working for him at the moment.

We don't currently have an alternativebut when Clarke and/or Lavery are fit I would expect the two striker berths to be filled by the players who add most to the team. If that's Sharp missing three chances but putting one away then so be it; if it's Lavery to stretch the opposition defence and create chances for the midfield then that's fine too.

Strikers will always be judged on goals but there's more to the role than that.

"Strikers will always be judged on goals but there's more to the role than that"

That's a very accurate assessment in my view.

Sharp's performances as a target man this season (and last) are very underrated by many fans. His link play is usually very good when the ball isn't 10 feet in the air, meaning that we retain possession of the ball further up the field more often than not. This appears to be lost on many.

I never said that anyone should be immune to criticism. But a sustained stream of unjustified slating since pre-season is something very different. His job is to score goals, when this stops happening over a sustained period then his detractors might have a point, (then again it won't make much difference since I've seen people hammering him on here even when he has scored)
Until then, there's a good half-dozen in the team who are more deserving of criticism than the top scorer.

Exactly, what about the complete lack of goals from our midfield. We can't rely on Sharp again to be are only source of goals again this season.

Sharp has credit in the bank with his goals so far and he even would admit his form has not been perfect but he is still aiming to get 20 or more goals.

It is the midfield and Done that deserve the most criticism at this moment in time. If Billy gets injured then we are buggered.

I reckon Wilder will be in the market for a proven striker in January to complement Billy. Clarke will be used from the bench to come on for Billy but will rarely start. And I don't see Clarke n Sharp starting as a front 2.

Any suggestions for said proven striker ?;)

Hasn't said proven striker reverted to his pre 2011-12 shit and injured normality?

As sustained stream of slating?? Really all I have seen is that his performances this year has been poor, I get the impression people get very upset when Sharp is criticised. He has deserved criticism at times, he spends far too much time drifting wide when he should be in the box, that is my biggest criticism. Compared to some of other scapegoats he has come off lightly.

My observations have been that quite a lot really love to criticise Billy for the slightest thing. A group of middle aged lads stood next to us at Fleetwood absolutely vilified Billy throughout the game. I thought he never stopped running the channels and although not getting a lot chances on goal did ok. To hear the "fans" around us you would think he was useless!! Argue all you like that nonne wants a Blades player to fail but I beg to differ with Billy. Weird !!!
When we get a decent channel runner (Lavery?) Billy will be the fox in the box.

He's our top scorer and was last season with 20 goals. Hence the aforementioned comments are inaccurate and nontruths as proved by the facts I've just stated.

Happy to help.

So you're not aware that it is in fact possible that players can have a shit game and perform below expectation then get a chance/penalty and score. You're also not aware this has been the case with Sharp regularly this season.

Nice to here Billy confirm the massive reduction he took in his salary to come to the Lane.

Billy Sharp is a striker. His job is to score goals. He's done that fairly consistently during his latest spell at the club, in what has largely been an underperforming era.

If he does nothing for 85 mins and then scores an equaliser or winning goal, he's done his job. Strikers at a higher level have made careers out of none existent scoring performances. Billy gets through a lot more work than some of those that spring to mind.

I realise this might be a revelation for you but the most forwards do drift in and out of games. In fact they often have less touches than most other players on the field.

Billy led the line well again today. Looked a yard quicker as well today.
