Remember him?

One of our ahem...big January buys with Shelton, Stead, Seck and Kilgalllon.

Was only with us for 6 months before heading back to Egypt. Do recall him coming on a sub v Spurs in a 2-1 win and doing ok before a poor performance at Anfield in a drubbing. He only played once more I think.

Anyway, still going strong - playing for Egypt at left back in the AFCON final....currently 1-1 v Cameroon.

Shame we sold him. Clearly an accomplished, versatile player. Could've been a cult figure for us if Robson actually gave him a chance. Didn't realise he was only 22 when we signed him. That makes it worse, he had plenty of time to develop.

Try Chumachero, Arce and another Columbian left back whose name I can't remember. All free agents. All journeymen who can get you up near the top.

I'm still hankering for last year when Tamas Priskin was a free agent. Him and Sharp up front got me promotion by February! Chumacero somewhat fills the void for me mind.

I signed Leon Osman on a free. He was very handy in League One.

I also had Sheff U's pants fully down and bought Ramsdale on the first season for just 100k when I tried a career for Newport County. I think in light of this it's worth saying that things could have gone much worse for us with his sale you guys...

How strange. I was just thinking about Ahmed today, while driving thro Woodseats. I can remember when he came on as a sub saying to the bloke in front of me, "at least he's Fathi not Farty". Bloke in front was fairly sure he'd be Farty. I guess he was right.

I had Priskin. He took some time to hit form.

Last time managed to get hold of Fellaini for a bargain and he was at 25 goals per season for us. Finished sixth in the PL and got sacked!

Fuck McCabe!

He could have been a huge hit with time, like that Hao Haidong fellow.

I remember that game against Spurs. I used to have a season ticket right next to the home dugout. I remeber Fathi coming on and running around like a madman haha Warnock was on the sideline with his smirk telling the lad to calm down.

Was that spurs game when Defoe shoved monty in the face and didn't get sent off?

I recall the Spurs cameo (he came on at right wing) and he looked somewhat over-eager. Against Everton he started in the middle of midfield and I thought had a decent game – a balls-up by Kenny at the back cost us three points I think. At Liverpool, which I think was his last appearance, he was nowhere – but then neither was anyone else.

Both he and Shelton probably would have featured more in a Warnock team the following season. I thought it was a bit odd that Robson immediately ditched Fathi – especially when he paired Monty and Leigertwood in the middle for his first game...

Yes, we dominated the Everton game and then Kenny, who was often criticised for not coming out enough, inexplicably came rushing out virtually to the corner flag. Andy Johnson went round him and Kenny retreated to the box and brought him down for a penalty which they converted.
