I read on another thread AGM had taken place, anyone go ? Or know what was said?

Amazed nothing been mentioned about it.

Hardly any notable board members there.

Jim Phipps thought it would be acceptable to be in Riyadh at the time.

BM' posters account of how he saw it:

I went Ronnie but TBH I came away feeling a bit discouraged. NA didn't attend for the usual Q & A (he was at training) and oddly there didn't appear to be anyone to represent The Prince. KM said that although Jim was co chairman he isn't a shareholder in the limited company. He attended last year but is currently in Saudi. Sela wasn't there either.

The Consolidated P & L audited by Grant Thornton under the name of Blades Leisure Ltd for the year ended 30 June 2015 shows turnover of £11.2m (2014: £11.2m also) and a loss of £2.9m (2014: £4.4m) after a profit on disposal of fixed assets of £2.2m (2014: £979k). Note 8 indicates that this relates to a profit on the disposal of player registrations.

The consolidated balance sheet now shows net liabilities of £1.2m (2014: net assets of £1.7m).
KM said that the squad was far too large (43 potential first team professionals), some of them on contracts not commensurate with a League 1 Club. There would therefore need to be significant cuts to the squad in January although money could be available for two or three players but only if the terms were reasonable given our position. NA could not possibly know his best team until the squad was reduced.

KM said they thought NA was the right man but it would all take more time than anticipated.

He also said NA had remarked to several board members that the squad were generally unfit when he arrived and several reported back from the summer overweight.

He issued a kind of rallying cry at the end saying we needed to restart with a win tomorrow but although I am a McCabe supporter generally I felt he was steeling us to accept that it may be next season before promotion is on the agenda. He didn't actually state this though and I do hope that I may have got it wrong?

Going out now but if anyone has any specific questions about the meeting I will try to answer them, maybe tomorrow.

Silent Journey Home posted this on Mad

Nice to see they are backing Adkins. Can't see us trimming the squad significantly in Jan, may have to wait until end of season when a fair few contracts expire.

'Might be signing players in January depending on terms'

'Will take longer than first thought'

'Net liabilities instead of net assets'

It's going to be a long winter friends.

Very much so. Unless we get some surprise offers I can see us loaning one and making Hammond permanent and goodbye.

NA could not possibly know his best team until the squad was reduced.

WTF?? Strange thing to say if that's how it was said. OK we know the squad is too big but just taking some players out of the equation will help NA select his best team? Ooh that's better thanks Kevin, I can see what I'm doing now they're out the way.

This will be the excuse they use for weakening the squad in the coming transfer window.

Pretty much confirms what we already know.

Some players were unfit, we have too many and some need to go.

Offload many and sign a few key players.

Hmm... not holding my breath then.

Worryingly it sounds more like "offload anyone we can (if we can)", there aren't many I'd keep tbh, but the sale of yet another key player would surely turn things very hostile very quickly?

That's Brayford gone then maybe Adams too ....................... confirms what I suspected the investment from the Prince has been wasted and we haven't got a ha'penny to scratch our arse with.

"some of them on contracts not commensurate with a League 1 Club."

Brayford, Billy, Coutts, Cuvelier, Higgo!?!?

Why is this? We've used this excuse before. It was the reason we got rid of Quinn, for example.

so why are we still saying this?

I just think we are broke again.
They probably had to pay top dollar to get Brayford and Collins is probably still on his Championship deal. Possibly Done and Sharp also but if anyone else is on a Championship deal someone needs shooting. I suspect that is why Brannigan is gone.

We are broke but not yet heavily indebted. I hope Turnbull has a plan.

So in summary, we'll be shipping out some of the deadwood and players we don't feel we can't continue to afford to enable us to bring in two or three within a less bulky squad. Can't say that sounds anything different to what's already been said. People automatically assume 'trimming the squad' = 'selling Brayford, Adams and Done'. That's the natural scepticism setting in, not really helped by the fact it was delivered by serial asset seller Kev. But there's nothing I've read there that suggests we are actively looking to get rid of our better players. We need to sell as much as we need to buy in this window – I'd have thought the performances the last few months would have made that clear.

Also, from a transfer/contract negotiation front I see no problem in us voicing publicly some ambiguity on the reasons behind the need-to-sell line. I suspect we've been burnt on past deals due to the perception we're a rich League 1 club – which is why spending on wages has been higher than it should perhaps have been.

How about the fact that our better players are the only ones we have a chance of off-loading in the JTW ? Although I can see Baxter, Higdon and maybe Mcnulty going in Jan.

Hmm... not holding my breath then.
I find it quite unbelievable that he comes out with statements saying the squad size is too big - well then Mr Mc who sanctioned the signing of all these players?

And then he says that some players are on contracts which are not commensurate with league 1 - well then Mr Mc who was it that offered these players such contracts.

Unbelievable, he says these things as if he had no part to play & he is simply sweeping up someone else's mess.

As ever:

Ignore what they say.
Watch what they do.

Wouldn't surprise me if we are paying Championship level wages for Basham, Baxter, Coutts, Hammond and Sammon. I'd imagine Higdon, Flynn and even Cuvelier are on high League 1 wages.

I pray to god that we are not planning to retain any of the 16 or so players that are out of contract at the end of season.

I see your point Winco and yes you would imagine by now NA has a very good idea of who his key players are, but bear in mind the AGM is sort of a round up of the last few months since NA started. Also it must be easier training day in day out to manage a smaller group of players than the current 43 pros?

The trouble is I can't see this really being readily resolved in January as most all contracts are June to June.

All very ominous. Especially with Cutback McCabe's new-found voice (or, rather, rediscovered voice) over recent weeks. Give us Jim back as club spokesman, please.

"KM said that the squad was far too large (43 potential first team professionals), some of them on contracts not commensurate with a League 1 Club. Despite this vast squad, after the abject humiliation of Shrewsbury, Nigel had to work with pretty much the same matchday squad of 18 for the following game.

Money "could be" available in January, but "only if the terms were reasonable"??? Sorry, but Jamie Murphy got flogged for £1.5m, because he wanted to leave (so it was reported), not because the board wanted him sold. Good money ought to be available to Nigel in January.

NA's been here 6 months, he's an experienced manager - if he doesn't know his best team now he never will. It's got nothing to do with the need for the squad to be reduced.

As ever:

Ignore what they say.
Watch what they do.
Especially in the light of rumblings which started a week ago. Someone on Mad said they would listen to offers for everyone except Basham, Done and Reed. Along with rumblings of disagreements between McCabe and the Prince.

This might have been dismissed by many as unreliable (Jim denied it) but if they are trying to plug a gap, we know on past performance they will sell.

The last thing we want is the wrong players going.
