We all applauded Wilder when he openly expressed his reluctance to bow to the greed of agents thus denting a move for Devante Cole and Sinclair on deadline day. Morally brilliant, treat the money like your own I love that, but on a day like today with our 3 main strikers out injured can we afford not to play the agent game? This season could be anything yet but clearly today we missed those strikers that didn't arrive on deadline day. If we are going to mount a challenge to get back into the big time we have to think big and unfortunately the modern game involves greedy agents. The higher we go in the league, the higher the stake levels rise and if we want to get back to the Premiership agents I'm afraid are a necessary evil.

Today was incredibly unlucky with the injuries, the team played great as always but prudence and morals may have cost us 3 valuable points. Lets grit our teeth in January and the players we want, not the players that come with cheaper agent commission.

Nonsense

Sharp was rested today for next week we all know it.

How many strikers should we buy to account for injuries? Ones that would actually be effective in this league aren't cheap.
Hard to account for 5 players out in one position

But you didn't feel like that yesterday?

Tried to edit this, but ran out of time - my post sounds like an esapost, but I'm not getting arsey, it's just that agents screwing the club is not on for me, we may be 5 strikers out, but still played 2....
Been a bad day results wise, but not a disaster.

I knew this thread would show up one day.

Fans who know nowt about footballing finances, use the benefit of hindsight to say we should have caved into some greedy agent.

No we shouldn't have caved in. Neither Sinclair or Cole would have made a difference anyway because it wasn't pace we needed but a physical presence today.

Hopefully in JTW agents will know that we aren't going to be dicked about and get on and sort the deal out rather than pushing it to the last minute

Take the point of the original post. Especially as to clear we could do with some strikers.

The fact is tho you CAN'T have it both ways

If we start being agreed to be ripped off over fees in deals, then it will happen time and time again. They will know who can and can't be ripped off and gouge us every time. If they know wilder won't stand for it then they are less likely to try it.

And let's face it the players that are keen to come and genuinely good characters won't be lead about by greedy agents making a quick buck at the expense of their career.

Hopefully McCabe is putting pressure on the Prince to put his hands in his pocket as he supposedly said he would after getting promoted. Otherwise I just don't see what he's doing at our place.

This isn't 'after timing it's common sense and has got nothing to do with being ripped off by agents. The lack of a substantial budget meant that not only was Wilder having to do too much buying on deadline day (giving the agents chance to throw their weight arounf as they knew we were desperate) but the players he can afford are either older and more injury prone or younger and unproven. So we have 6 strikers but how many of them are the wrong side of 30 and/or injury prone ? The Don, who I think will be a good signing, pulled his hamstring shooting ffs! Ched hardly played last season and needs an operation, Lavery has never put a run of games together, Hanson has been on and off injured since we signed him and Clarke is hardly a model of fitness. Thank god for Billy but when he's out we are well and truly @@@@@@.

We are now staring down the face of going to pigsboro without a proper strikeforce. It was avoidable with some investment but it wasnt forthcoming.

Yes, let's go against everything positive we have done that has moved this club forward and go back to what put us in this situation in the first place.

Some people really want their head feeling when they talk weapons grade shit like the OP.

So you insult me for sharing an opinion?

pretty impressive leap of faith to assume that if we had signed an extra striker the result would have been any different

Getting tanned for this thread, but it's not all about today. If your playing at a higher level and striving for more you have to pay, like it or not.

You make a fair comment.

At some point if we are the only ones refusing to greese the wheels net-net we will miss out on occasions.

That said, no manager can legislate for having 5 forwards unavailable. Even if Wilder got his way he'd have lost Hansen and gained Sinclair and Cole. If 5 were out then he would have still been faced with 70% Evans or full debut maker Brooks plus one other. Almost impossible.

To put this into context, going to wikipedia, Norwich have only 4 strikers listed in their entire squad, so do Man U.

The only player we left out today who was fit was Heneghan and we had 3 defenders on the bench already though there must have been a case to throw Bash up top or the Spurs lad at a point.

Agree about Vickers, thought last 15 get him up top, we had nothing to hit all game

No I insult you for making no sense and being a reactionary with a track record for talking absolute pony. But that is just my opinion.

My opinion is that you should respect other opinions without the insults. You are a bad person.

She makes sense on at least one occasion then.

Your the guy that has a Blades duvet, Blades wallpaper, Blades alarm clock and snuggles up to a Captain Blade plush aren't you.

I can live with that, but I'd still say your point is fundamentally flawed and goes against all the good things we brought Wilder in to do. You didn't bother answering that part. I can pull your point to pieces just looking back over the past 14 months or so Wilder has been in charge. He buys value. Anyone remember how it turned out when we bought Beattie, Hendrie, Ched, Henderson and all the other bankruptcy inducing players we had? Ultimately we ended up going backwards for 10 years. Your point is quick fix and potentially could ruin the morale at the club. Promotion this season is a pipe dream, Wilder is building and consolidating a team that will combine youth, experience, strength, power, pace and spirit. After 8 games he will be pretty pleased with the platform we have built, not looking to spunk it all up the wall on agents fees.

This is where you my abusive friend are ignorant. I am not saying we need a quick fix, nor have I said anything about bankrupting our club. Say it again, if you have aspirations for the top you need to play the game, if you can't afford a player, fine move on. If you can afford a player but won't pay the agent then it's a bit short sighted. It's the name of the game today I'm afraid, like it or not if we are going to get to the next level we have to play the agent game.
