Do we want to follow a team that:-
1 plays in the premiership but losses nearly every game
2 stays in the championship & wins some games
3 plays in division 1 & wins most games
4 as long as we are above the pigs it doesn't matter

2 and 4 for me out of your options,my preferred option would be Premier League and win most games, along with 4 .

None of the above. Go up, have a go, don't be daft with the money so if we go down we have a good chance of going up again. Keep doing that until we're strong enough to compete for the cups. Win something before I die. That would do me.
And I don't mean go up this season, just keep building, keep Wilder and hope our stability and continuity gives us the edge over the clubs that sack managers every few months and wonder why they don't progress; which is the majority of the clubs in the championship.

Promotion has to be the aim or there's no point in the Championship

As for the Premiership, I'll worry about losing games if and when we ever get there

Gi the club the £200m and let's worry about things then. At least if we drop through the trap door, we might be able to compete in the Championship because we'll have that great leveller known as "parachute payments"

Why isn’t one of the options “a premier league team that can hold its own”?

Or is that ambition a bit too stretched for a club that seemingly has a large proportion of supporters that will happily see us “doing ok”?

Bournemouth and Watford and HUDDERSFIELD FFS!! AND BURNLEY!!! All above us.

I want us to be up there holding our own. But there’s only so many rabbits from so many hats.

Prem otherwise why bother? Surely the aim of every season is to get promoted if you can, or if you're in the Premier League, get as high up as possible.

Even one season in the Premier League would set us up for the following years, if we could stay up even better.

Wilder is a big admirer of Burnley, look at what they're doing with their resources, somewhere between a Burnley and a Leicester would do me fine ;)

Blackburn bought a premiership title and when the money ran out theyve failed and gone back to there average crap support. Portsmouth bought a cup final bought Sol Campbell Defoe WTC and ended up in league two in massive debt. Wigan bought a cup final have poor support and ended up in league one. Newcastle spent millions and won nothing never will. Burnley and Bournemouth are the sensible role models = steady progression. Warnock did the beat thing to ever happen to sufc he sold Marcus bent bought Michael brown and asked the rest of the money create an academy for the future which we've produced numerous quality players. No Sheffield club will ever be successful even tho as a city we have a bigger population than both Manchester and Liverpool it's the socialist labour within this city that holds it back and stops progression in any form from shopping to development due to its dark ages mentality.

Is it ok for us to credit Burnley's Labour Council with the success of their football club, then?

Blades fans that are only interested in number 4 says a lot about them, of course we always want to be above the Pigs and that will never change for me as it's something that we'll always think about. But it should never be the be all and end all as that's just pretty pathetic and obsessive really.

Whenever we return to the PL fingers crossed we don't turn into a club like Stoke, WBA and Burnley (I like how Burnley are being run as a club but not the incredibly hard to beat playing style). Saying that I'd still appreciate just being there because during the last half century Sheffield United hasn't featured all that much in the top flight, so we can't be too picky about how we go about our approach.

Fingers crossed that when we do return CW will still be in charge and I'm confident that with his mindset he'll send our team out to have a real good go to finish as high as possible and not cower too much to the big boys, especially in the Cup competitions so we can try and win one or two!

Huddersfield hardly holding their own though :)

Hahaha!

Premiership has to be the aim, even if we lose every game if we use the money we get wisely we’ll be a lot stronger.
And who says we’d lose loads look at
Bournemouth
Burnley
Brighton
Palace

Sean Dyche's let himself go....

5 plays in the premiership and wins most games, Bassett's side did it for a season and if fucking Bournemouth, Watford, Stoke and the likes of Burnley can do it why can't we?

Saturday lunchtime, Saturday teatime,
Sunday lunchtime, Sunday teatime,
Monday evening...

I suppose for the supporter who wants to watch SUFC in the PL without leaving home*, it'll be great.

*Every PL match available to watch via Euro/International streams... even 1500 Sat. KO's.

How about a team that plays in the Prem and holds its own, builds up its finances and infrastructure, and is able to be a regular contender in the top division in the world?

Why does it have to be that the Prem would mean losing nearly every game? Is a Burnley or a Bournemouth beyond us?

Try and have a bit more ambition mate! If our owners are thinking the same as you then they may as well pack up Now and go home!

Championship or Premier League, play good football and win most if our home games, regular cup runs. Do things the right way and avoid financial meltdowns. Managers, players and owners, the fans can have a relationship with.

Might sound 'small time' but Burnley are a good model to follow.

Stability with their coaching staff, have their own style of play that works and didn't overspend to get promotion. They stuck with Dyche after relegation, then went back up at the first time of asking. It's only now after staying up last year they're spending to push on. But the fees they've paid (£15m for Wood, £13m for Brady etc) is still modest compared to most other clubs.

I think a lot of Burnley's small time rep is because of being Northern, playing at Turf Moor, an old fashioned four side no corners smallish ground, and the fact that on the TV it looks like the ground is in a Constable painting which makes a lot of people think it's the parish football team on a good run haha..

If they played in a sponsor bowl like Brighton or just a bigger ground like Southampton or Sunderland they might not be painted in the same way.

Playing some nice football now, good manager, positive signings. I bet they're thrilled and we should definitely be sighting them as inspiration.
