With this chap watching from the stand he must be signing this week. And Norwood at Millwall. When in the league?
Can play all them roles,or rather he could, whether age caught him up who knows. What type of midfielder is he?
Defensive, box to box, attacking?
And please, don't just reply 'a shit one'
because we need to give him a chance.
Don't see why there's so many cry babies on this thread, another experienced head won't be on too much, knows Slavs methods and won't need to be acclimated to the system. It's not like we are signing him to replace Sander is it? Fleck and Norwood have been FAR too complacent for 18 months so he adds competition and hopefully gets them back on their toes!
I'd take 4th from bottom as it stands now.
It is not the fault of our owner, Steve Bettis and the manager that the transfer market is slow. Yes, other clubs have made their signings but I believe our targets are higher profile and PL clubs dont announce their 25 player squad until after next weekends fixtures. Last season the deadline for naming the PL 25 man squad was three weeks before the EFL transfer deadline but they have changed it back to the same day as when the transfer window shuts
Box to box at 35 .... gotta see thisWhat type of midfielder is he?

When he was good he was a big powerful skilful centremid. But he isn’t good anymore and he’s not the jake Wright type brought in for leadership qualities he’s always been temperamental and prone to throwing the toys out of the pram. I genuinely can’t see the logic in this one at allWhat type of midfielder is he?

Not heard anything, just looking at the threads in the rumours section. The Ramsdale transfer has dragged on longer than we have liked. It looks like that there are incomings soon especially with the rumours about Jokanovic prepared to sell Brewster, Burke, Slater and Smith. Lets see what our squad looks like on Sept 1st. ATM, you have no right to say we have handled this window badly and I have no rights to say that we are bringing in good players. What makes you think our targets are higher profile? Have you heard something?
Everyone knows the rules and dates and we have had a long time to act. It is bizarre why we have not tried or been able to improve a squad that is clearly need in huge strengthening. The club should have seen for over a year we needed to improve our midfield in particular yet focused for a month on a player that was not fit and had not played for a long time. The fact we are scrambling around to sign 5 players (that the manager says we need) in just over a week means we may overpay and/or be competing with others that will usurp us for the better players. I think we would have been a more attractive proposition for players and EPL clubs in the summer too.
As you say other clubs have signed players and the rules are clear. So why haven't we especially after such a disastrous season when it was clear things needed changing?
I would say it's entirely the fault of our club why we have failed not to sign anyone.
Drama……I'd take 4th from bottom as it stands now.
Who's to say he won't be a speed or a McCall
How do you know he's no good? Not played in England for 2 years. You an Al Gharafa season ticket holder? When he was good he was a big powerful skilful centremid. Negative? I’m normally very upbeat on most players. If he was a player who’d been a leader at previous clubs I could see the logic despite his age but he’s had some fairly well publicised bust ups throughout his career and was very bad at forest before going to Saudi. How do you know he's no good? The logic is clear as I put earlier, but that wouldn't suit your negative ramblings on every post you make.
Like you say let's hope he steadies the ship, not rock it, last thing we need right now is Dean Hammond mark 2If he helps us steady the ship and get us back on a decent bit of form then I'd be happy with this signing. End of the day we need reinforcements in midfield so this guy might be a good place to start.like
True. This signing could go either way. Hopefully it will work out. On another note his experience can be helpful to the younger midfielders helping them learn aspects of the game.Like you say let's hope he steadies the ship, not rock it, last thing we need right now is Dean Hammond mark 2
If he can read the game he might not need to do the headless chicken routine, if he installs a bit of confidence, reassurance to what is a mentally fragile defence good for him.
It's a time for stand up and be counted, if he shows that from now till the new year he'll have done a job
It's not like we are signing him to replace Sander is it?
As long as he has 2 of them he'll be better than Norwood and fleckIs it heresy if I suggest Speed was yet another high wage, ageing, vanity signing in the midst of an old, stodgy team. We don’t want to head that way again…
Clearly a decent player even at that age, but we needed legs then, and we need them now.
I can’t give the recruitment team any credit at this point in time and won’t until I see legitimate signs of improvement. Bladeinleeds.
Being heavily linked with players days before the transfer window closes, doesn’t help SJ in anyway, nor the rest of the lads. The squad is currently in need of building, and the only serious player incoming after Davies (a year late, for a system SJ no longer wanted to play) is a 35 Year old free agent midfielder who has a questionable attitude. I never suggested “bargain basement” players, and to that end it seems rather like a Freudian slip.
Wilder is old news, he wasn’t the only one building the squad. It’s been time to improve the balance of the squad for a year’ all parties involved in recruitment were aware. Tracking player after player for a year or two to lose out on them doesn’t cut the mustard and highlights a failure in relation to decision making and a backup plan ready to go.

I think we have handled the window which is effectively really from the end of the season (mid May to August) terribly. We might bring a few in but I'm not sure that bringing in 5 players and probable starters at once in the final week (2 months after the new manager started and 2-3 weeks after the season started) was a clear planned strategy?
Do you honestly think its a deliberate plan to wait for EPL teams to submit squads before we make our moves? There is the Champ, LG 1/2 and the whole of the continent. We should have brought players in during the summer or a long time before the final week. Now we are scrambling around. It's appears a mess with no clear plan. Even the local journalists like Sutcliffe and Hemmingham have said as much today.
After the last 2 years recruitment I am not sure I have any confidence in us being able to identify players to improve us either sadly.
