would agree no its not an ideal signing but we all know its only short term and if he gives us that bit of bite sat in front of the back 4 cant be any worse than what weve got now plus it does give us the chance to push berge further forwardI think some on here should wash there mouths out,! being disrespectful to a player who SJ obviouly thinks will help him and the team.
Ok he's well past his best ! so was McCall and one or two others.Weve had one bad failure dont think SJ will do the same as he knows the players recent history well.
Some on here are acting like spoiled bratts
I was actually pretty pissed off at Billy when he came on, we had them on the ropes and first thing he did was stand offside allowing them to reset, and then they go and score. It's obvious where you're going with this. And Sharp did score, not against him coming on.
However, it was 0-0 when he did at a time in the game where they were on the ropes. Not capitalising on that by bringing on certain younger players allowed Town to ultimately worm their way off those ropes and go on to with the game.
not saying its a reason but serbia and bosniaI just can't help but think Mo Besic is still a free agent, does what Guedioura supposedly offers and is only 28

No idea what he is like now,but depending on the state of the game, you could have him in a defensive or more forward role.If he played as defensive midfield and we were looking for more further forward,we could sub on a more defensive player or move somebody and push him further up,bit like Man City used to do with Ya Ya.Norwood plays at the base of the midfield and although he has good passing range, he isn't the strongest defensively...although he does win tackles and interceptions etc. Guedioura is much better than Norwood defensively, but he isn't as good at unlocking a defence from deep as Norwood is. Another added bonus for playing Guedioura over Norwood is his ball carrying ability, 2.19 successful dribbles p90 compared to Norwoods 0.22 successful dribbles p90.
I have a little concept in mind as to why Slav is signing Guedioura...

If you're owt like the bloke in your avatar, I'd say you were just what we need. You are aware that he's not played a competitive game since Jan-2020 aren't you?
If you still think he's worth a go, it's probably also worth considering that Bosnians and Serbs don't tend to get on too well.
All-in-all, I'd say there is more chance of you or I being offered a contract than Besic.
Finally got hold of a Watford supporting mate, he says don't worry about his age he's a intelligent holding midfielder who reads the game really well , but be prepared for a few games on bans as he is quite prepared to take one for the team, apparently he wasn't used properly at forest and that's why florist fans didn't rate him, my mate also says he really stood out at Al-Ghafara and will stand out at championship level .
Watford apparently tried to get him back at the start of last season
As opposed to our collective midfield that look like they haven’t played a competitive game since the early naughties…You are aware that he's not played a competitive game since Jan-2020 aren't you?

That’s much more encouraging because at forest he was gash. If he comes in I hope it was down to him being out of position rather than the ravages of time.

Asked the question of my mate he says it's the yellow card accumulation with himI looked up his stats the other night and his disciplinary record didn't seem as bad as many are suggesting. Fairly sure he has only had a few red cards, which isn't exactly psycho territory for a 35 year old..
You don’t see how he could be worse than Norwood? You’re going to be in for a huge surprise if this comes true.I don't see a way he can be worse than Norwood and especially Fleck has been so far this season.
It'll be a short term deal and he's actually not scared to put a foot in (I'm expecting at least 1 red card if he gets many games).
I suppose he could rifle one in to the wrong net from 35 yards (he's always had a good shot on him), even then he'd only just be worse than what Fleck has offered so far.
Most on here writing him off before he's even signed because of his age, yet we had an 83 year old Phil Jagielka playing for us in the premiership last season and our leading scorer in the league this season is the same age.
Definitely not an inspiring signing, but give the bloke a chance. It's not his fault the club is a shambles.

Correct. You don’t see how he could be worse than Norwood? You’re going to be in for a huge surprise if this comes true.
The comparison to Jags or Sharp Is ridiculous. For a start neither play in midfield, which, arguably, aside from wing back requires the most amount of ground covered for a position on a pitch.
The lad is 35, has been playing in a league which would struggle to compete in the conference over in the UK and the last time he was over in the UK 2 years ago was described as legs gone and shot.
There’s giving the lad a chance if he actually signs but also some incredible naivety. Just basic due diligence and a look at what we need (a midfield re-haul with dynamism and athleticism to transition play and get from box to box) shows he ticks none of the boxes.
There’s a good reason he’s not been brought back to the UK in the last couple of years. There’s also a very good reason no teams in the championship or below are looking at him.
Backwards step...I think some on here should wash there mouths out,! being disrespectful to a player who SJ obviouly thinks will help him and the team.

Definitely short term at best but given what we’re currently having to watch I’m willing to wait and see. If he stabilises things and we start to see some progress elsewhere then I’m fine with it. If he’s our only signing well that’s a different storyBackwards step...
Absolutely pointless signing if true and a joke...
Let's sign more that are well and truly past it... That's a plan then I give up..
We have enough already picking a wage up, let's add another eh..

Correct.
Norwood showed signs of improvement Saturday, but I'm pretty sure that was because we played a really poor team who were happy to let us sit back and have the ball, because they knew not much would come from us having possession. He was never really under pressure and when he was he played a neat through ball to a Huddersfield player.
If you're trying to make a point about mobility of Guedioura at 35, probably best not to compare him to one of the most immobile midfielders we've seen for a long time in Ollie. Saying a player's legs have gone because of age is such a lazy generalisation. This bloke at 35 will be able to get round the pitch better than Norwood does.
How's he been performing for Al-Gharafa? I presume you're a regular viewer of that league seen as though you know the quality?
Clubs won't have been looking at him because he'll have been very handsomely paid over there which championship clubs won't have wanted to match.
Also, not many clubs will have been as desperate for midfielders as we are now (failings of previous management and behind the scenes personnel).
Am I saying he's what we want/need? No.
Am I saying he can't be worse than the current versions of Norwood and Fleck? 100%
I'm not happy with the signing. But it's clearly a last minute alternative to RV, that will be a short term deal.
Hmm, I don’t really agree with that about Norwood but maybe I should have made that more clear in my initial response. I believe the reason Norwood gets a lot of the blame is due to both Fleck and Berge (apart from spurts of 10mins here or there in the case of Berge) not doing their role. Norwood’s role isn’t to boss that midfield. It’s to kick play off and spread the ball. Something he continues to do pretty well and add in defensively. See link below:
Whilst yes on Saturday that was against poorer opposition affording him the space, we need to rest of midfield to actually do its job so that space isn’t compounded when we play higher pressing teams. Make runs, make space, stop hiding and actually transition the ball through the pitch and allow us to play through the press. - something of which we are not doing bar the odd one or two runs by Berge in the second half after is reminded what he is supposed to be doing on the pitch.
I think that’s a tad over dramatic about Norwood’s mobility. He’s not the quickest no but it’s never been his role to be a box to box midfielder… Guedioura on the other hand, have you seen the roles he has been deployed in thought his career? I don’t it’s lazy to say his legs will have gone at the age. There’s no chance he’ll be box to box anymore at this level. He’s not Ronaldo with respect to conditioning. It is lazy to say he’ll be able to get around the pitch better than Norwood though.
Come on now, don’t be so pedantic. No one needs to be a regular viewer of the Qatar Stats League to know it’s no where near the quality of the English football pyramid. Since you asked though, 2 goals and 5 assists in 2 years over there bodes well comparatively coming into the Championship doesn’t it? The reason he didn’t get picked up by another team in the UK will not be down to wages, clear as day it’ll be his performances for the likes of Forrest or, alternatively, he didn’t want to drop to the level he now should play at in the UK.
I agree with the other failings around desperation for midfielders and not being ideal but I tell you what, he can easily as hell be a damn site worse than Fleck and Norwood and the stats are there already to show that.
He might well be a last minute addition and an alternative on a short term deal. A completely idiotic last minute addition reeking of desperation. How about instead of doing that, we don’t bother wasting the money and instead, if we’re not going to get someone in longer term, look to the likes of Brunt or Ndiaye and give them a crack. Better yet, let’s get Freeman up to speed and replace fleck with him until he pulls his head out of his arse? Being desperate for midfielders doesn’t mean we have to go make rash decisions.
A bit of background:would agree no its not an ideal signing but we all know its only short term and if he gives us that bit of bite sat in front of the back 4 cant be any worse than what weve got now plus it does give us the chance to push berge further forward
