Come on. Let's put the idea to bed that we tried to get anyone in.

We clearly didn't. They didn't even both with the 11.05pm "we made 4 bids that were rejected"
Bullshit this time around.

We made zero attempts to bring anyone in.

Except they did:

Non League Wilder has Micky Adams Mk11 written all over him.

Yep, he'd be a big risk but has done well wherever he's been ever since he was at Bradway FC and Alfreton :-)

At the moment the Utd job must, for this season at least until great swathes of the squad are released, be one of the most difficult in the four leagues. A poor, unbalanced squad lacking in pace, rumours of Board squabbling, incredibly high (potentially unrealistically) expectiations of supporters with very little patience, opposition teams treating the games against us as very winnable cup finals, limited budget due to very high operating costs (losses) etc.

The managers that would stand the greatest chance of surviving and achieving would be well out of our reach and budget. As such, whoever was chosen if Adkins did leave would be a risk.

Ah sorry, you're right.
Not that they made bids, that they trotted out that bullshit after.

Pete , I did get a txt from a director saying that they had put in a increased bid for Burn . My view the intent was there but no intention to carry it through . The only way the bloke would ever come was on loan . If this is the case why lead us all on , and just say so . Transparency is the the key , and at the lane there ain't any .

Not outright lies , but certainly more economical with the truth as each day passes.

You can just see it, Green leading them all into the Boardroom with the countdown clock showing 30 mins to the close of the window. Conference call goes through to Saudi:

Green: So we've got three bids in, some top talent and pace.
Adkins: A centre half, a young, fit and fast centre mid and a big target man...
McCabe: Thank fuck for that, finally we can get rid of that prick Collins
Green: Yes Kevin, we can start to take this club forward
Phipps: Er hey guys, its me and princey here, we didn't hear you right... did you say that the Due Diligence is done for these three?
McCabe: What the fuck is this prick on.
Phipps: Yeah Kevin, we need to do the due diligence, you know, i can google the players from here and email 'the lads'
Green: With respect Jim, we've done some back ground checks as always, but these three have come up at the last minute...
McCabe: And they're Cheap.
Adkins: I think they're going to fit in well Jim.
Phipps: Shut it Nigel, we had such comments from your predecessor - no way lads, no way. I run this ship
McCabe: actually WE run this ship
Phipps: Hey - I'm the one connecting with the Blades about Chip Butties Kevin.
Green: Erm.. so 25 mins left, i've got three fax machines here ready and we can get these deals done within 5 mins
Phipps: In the words of Yorkshires Paddy McGuiness "No Due Diligence, no Signy"
Adkins: Oh fuck off, he's from Bolton
McCabe: Ok Phippsy, your call, but you can tell the fans
Phipps: Yeehaa! I have a LinkedIn message ready to go. I'll blame Clough
Adkins: Cool, thanks Jim
McCabe: Don't get excited Nigel, you're still two defeats away from a sacking...

If he did walk away it would screw us up for a long time IMO. Another manager coming in and giving these players another chance to prove themselves, a few good performances and renewed contracts - disaster.

It's obvious to me from that tweet that his wife has left him due to his Pokémon habit that has become so out of control that he forgot the January transfer window because he had "gotta catch 'em all"

Bollocks I know but so is trying to decipher the deeps from a single twatter post ;)
Big pile of likes sir

I think he will do a Steve Bruce in the summer.

What, turn into someone who looks like my gran?

Oh, I see what you mean. Fuck off up the road for loads more money then pretend he'd been let down by our board.

Then after getting sacked and taken on by Wigan, he could fuck off again for more money. Then when he finds Palarse isn't as wonderful as he thought he could try to fuck off to Brum but Simon Jordan wouldn't let him.

He is a wanker and a serial quitter.

I really can't believe the low level of vitriol he gets when he comes to BDTBL. He should be chased out of town with sticks.

Pathetic plastic Geordie Manyoo tosspot wanker.

ISC (There, that's better)

Bruce was promised 5 Million to invest in players, by the end of his tenure we were left with Ian Hamilton and Kozluk and Jonathan Hunt as replacement for Stuart and Borbokis and every other fucker was sold. I don't blame him walking, i'd expect any sane man to do the same.

I don't give a toss what sob story you've heard. His track record shows him walking out on Wigan (twice) and Palace as well as us.

That is more than enough to hang him from a Bramall Lane lampost, pour encourager les autres.......

Sob story? He was completely shat on by our board.
Promised transfer funds, took the job, presented them with a list of targets and was laughed at, and told he had to cut the wage bill by 25% and there was no transfer budget.

We've a history of being run by deceitful bastsrds and nothing's changed.

Not doubting you were texted mate but I simply don't believe anything from the people running the club.

The whole lot of them watching the under 21's in the afternoon and not s peep of anything from anyone ITK coming out on the final day.

I believe the decision not to release funds was made a fair bit before Monday.

He may be a "serial quitter" in hindsight, but honestly I don't blame him for leaving us, Borbokis, Stuart, Kelly, Saunders and Tebily had all been sold.

What part of 'Bruce is a total wanker' don't you understand?

I'm not talking about our board, as bad as they are.

I am slagging off a tosspot who threw his toys out and walked out on us. Then walked out on Wigan. Then walked out on Palace, Then walked out on Wigan again.

...I seem to remember Bradway FC always seemed to run second to a certain rag-tag outfit at the time...promotions...cup final at BDTBL..now if only I could remember their name... ;)

Not really bothered what he's done elsewhere.
Simply educating on the fully understandable reasons he left us.

Okay I get the sympathy vote for him.

Simple question. Do you think he is a complete wanker, or not?

I'm reading between the lines here, but here is what I think has happened:
- First off, I think everyone is keen to get where we need to get to. For all his failings I do believe that McCabe wants this club in the PL. Agree with that or not, that is my belief.
- I think the board underestimated the task that was required following the sacking of Clough in the summer. They brought Nigel in, i believe with the sole aim of getting up this year.
- Nigel being as good as I believe he is and as honest as I believe he is, has assessed the squad and gone back to the board and said, look gents, we've got 40-odd professionals here! This is huge for a club in League 1.
- The board have sat up and thought.....holy christ! No wonder the budgets are stretched, we need to have a re-think here.
- Adkins, having been promised a certain remit in the interview to get us up, has had to agree to trimming the squad right down, with limited incomings.
- On the proviso that as long as we do not have a disastrous season, he will be given the summer to make wholesale changes, no matter the division.

Thats just how I see it. I think the board knew that Clough had been a bit too active in the transfer market, but not to the extent identified later. Adkins is purely another victim of the Clough regime, and as much as the board are getting the flack for a poor transfer window, i think the tack being taken is correct in setting up the summer for Adkins to truly put his mark on our club, I just hope he truly gets the opportunity.

I've got a lot of respect for him as a manager. He's worked his way up from the bottom but I'd be worried the size of the task at the Lane would overwhelm him.

That's what I've come round to thinking.

McCabe gets slammed for being in Brussels all the time, and now he gets slammed for watching an U21 game in Sheffield instead of in his office phoning clubs to enquire about the availibility of players.

I don't think you can slag him off for watching the U-21's on deadline day. Presumably he has a mobile phone, and would be able to receive a text or call the moment there was movement on the transfer front.

Five million? Bruce said he was. No one else did. Always had another job lined up back then .

The joke throughout football was that even Tesco turned him down for a loyalty card.
