This is the first time he has spoken that I’ve seen about his tenure at The Lane.

Interesting he talks of splits behind the scenes, think the only split was should we or shouldn’t we get shut of him.

Also confirms that Sammon amongst others was already lined up.

No comment on that fraud Hammond.

Worst gaffer in my lifetime, what a tosser.

To be fair to him having his best player sold from under him as soon as he walked through the door musn't have helped.
No excuses for Woolford or Hammond but he turned to players who he knew and trusted. 2 out of 3 of those just weren't up to it, but we got Billy back and he has been immense.

Whatever folk think of him now he will still be remembered on the wider stage as a good manager. 4 promotions, including a back to back isn't a cakewalk even with that Southampton squad. Us Reading and possibly Hull just got him after his expiry date.

Why is he a tosser? He failed here sure but he has always seemed like a nice, decent guy.

Complete fraud. Every time he gave an interview, my Bullshitometer went right off the scale.

Shows how much it's about being in the right place at the right time. If Adkins had been anywhere other than Scunthorpe he might have failed first time and never had a managerial career

I'm a nice, decent guy. Never a fucking football manager though.

He - like a lot of managers - had a brief purple patch which he can dine out on for ever. His brief time at The Lane will never be forgotten. Join McCarthy, Coleman and other useless cunts in the dole queue.

His credentials were decent, particularly at Southampton and he spoke convincingly when he first arrived. I was optimistic initially.

It was unfortunate that he was a clueless cliche ridden tactically inept buffoon.

Thanks goodness for straight talking, wilder who gets the best from his players and tries to entertain. We should never take this golden period for granted after the tenures of the likes of Sadkins and Clough.

Initially I was impressed with Adkins positivity, made a change and enjoyed his pre and post match interviews.

However after a while I realised that his interviews were totally unrelated to what went on the pitch.
The more I listened the angrier I got. Alos think he knew he was under pressure so was always keen to big himself up if a tactic worked but totally ignored it if his tactic failed.

His last match at home to Scunthorpe is one of the lowest I’ve ever felt in football.
At that point it suddenly hit home we could be in the dead mans league of league 1 for another 10, 15 or 20 years.
Even if Wilder does nothing from now on, he’ll always be a favourite of mine for getting promotion in those circumstances
And the cherry on top was, we actually played some fantastic football.

Genuine thanks and appreciation to our manager who has won himself loads of goodwill and patience from me.

I suppose he can wax lyrical about enjoying his time at the Lane when he walks off with close to a million quid of our money. Then there’s the cunt Hammond who also fucked us over for a cool half a million due to his mate Nigel. Fuck off Adkins you clueless fucking ponce.

Yes he did a very bad job and brought in some dreadful players but he was a thoroughly good and decent bloke who had the best intentions. I don’t think he is deserving of some of the strong personal abuse which some like to dish out to him.

The fact he says he thought we weren't too far away when he left makes me feel mightly relieved we sacked him.

We weren’t far away regards having decent players.
The problem was the attitude, sense of entitlement at a big club and playing too slow.

Wilder came in and demanded 100% work and effort otherwise leave.
He also knew that we needed more tempo and more urgency.
He realised that we have expectations, not necessarily to win but to give 100 effort and work as a team.

Another trick is that Adkins was over tactical and concentrated too much on stopping the opposition. He constantly changed his players and even at the end of the season still didn’t know his best team.

Wilder played almost the same players week in week out and made it clear, play well and you stay in the team, drop your standards and someone else will be given a chance.

To be fair, we weren't that far off in terms of personnel.

Adkins left us with Freeman, Basham, Scougall, Coutts, Done and Sharp. All players who played an important part in our promotion the following season.

Just shows how much we underachieved under Adkins.

Interesting article and he has said similar stuff before since he's left us. I defended him to the hilt in his time with us but I turned almost in an instant with THAT interview after the Scunthorpe game when he seemed to blame us for a negative atmosphere even though the football was the reason the football was negative. The reason he was sacked, I believe, is not that we were poor but that his signings, Billy apart, were worse than what we already had, so why give him another season given his record of signings this far!

It appears despite his reputation as Mr Nice guy that he pissed several players off, although I do take on board that he inherited a vastly bloated squad of largely average players but he didn't sell as many as he claimed either. I think from memory several left on loan but were till there when Wilder took over. He did release or sell Murphy (not his decision of course), Neill Collins, Michael Higdon and that's about it?!

Adkins says this though!

I went in there believing there had to be change and believing that I had time. I had a three-year contract. There was 50 players and we turned it all around. I believe I was the only manager in the January window not to sign a player, we sold everyone.

He would have got more time had he done better but I think he's totally in denial that he failed at United and much of that was his fault, as well as the mess he inherited.

They were all Clough signings apart from Billy weren't they?

Some truly maddening things in that interview. "We turned it all around" WTF!!?? The it was "hard to play in that arena" takes the biscuit for me though, highlights his own weakness and utter failure to motivate his team.

It was no secret Sammon was lined up already and considering who the previous manager was, it amazed me people disputed it.

Bozo Adkins.

I couldn’t care tuppence about Hull City but I really really really want us to win on Friday because it’s Bozo in the opoopiste dugout, the man who came closest to stopping me going to watch United.

Would wake up on Match days dreading going by the end.
