I'm sure he's a lovely man, but he's a fucking charlatan. If you look up charlatan on the dictionary, there's a picture of his gormy face next to the word.
 
There's no legitimate reason to really hate the guy, but I think his comments only serve to highlight how poor a job he did.

If he was aware that he had such a bloated squad, why did he do nothing about it? He says that he went in believing that there 'had to be change', yet his actions did nothing to support that, nor did he ever make a point of it when he arrived.

He clearly has an issue with the fans and, no matter how rubbish his team played, I think he had the right to say "I think the fans are making it a toxic atmosphere", if he wanted to. What gets on my tits are the poorly-veiled barbs in a torrent of complimentary platitudes about how great and 'passionate' we are. It's a slippery approach, and it's tiring to see he's still sticking to the same non-committal, PR-positive line. I'd respect him much more if he just said nothing at all, or alternatively called us all pricks.
 
I didn’t really rate Adkins when he arrived, it was a ‘meh’ appointment and not one which I saw as being the man to take us forward.

I tried to be objective and give him a chance, but Adkins himself made it very difficult to like him as I saw him as a complete bullshitter dancing around questions and seeing the games as very different to what everyone else saw. We saw crap, he spoke of great efforts and hard work, but wasn’t any of that. We were awful and players really didn’t play for him

Quite simply, Adkins was given the task of getting us promoted and getting the wage bill down, both in year one. He achieved neither and can’t argue those points im sure, even the wage bill.

He got rid of Collins though, so it wasn’t all bad ;)

I knew Clough had landed us with Sammon. So in reality he signed 3 players Woolford, Sharp and Hammond.

Adkins clearly thought he had time to build but in reality he didn't. Amongst all his waffle and positivity in his interviews he always denied the squad were good enough for promotion which I found odd. He said it from day one and maybe by saying it publicly meant he never had the full backing of the players.

That said if he is serious about rebuilding his career, why the fuck he has he gone to Hull.

During the match, boos rang out with, 'You're getting sacked in the morning' bellowing from the Kop and the biggest cheer from the home support arrived when it was announced that Dean Hammond had been given the hook at half time. Following that, when speaking to local media and asked about the atmosphere at Bramall Lane that day, after a match in which the team had produced yet another lacklustre display in losing to Scunthorpe, Adkins appeared to criticise the support. "I've come with, today's opposition for example, Scunthorpe United, as a visiting manager and you know what the atmosphere is going to be like here at Sheffield United. Always has been, probably always will be...that's just the nature of it," he said.

Never his fault, was it?

Nothing about it, seriously? He was mostly unsuccessful in everything he did, but Hammond apart he did a lot to significantly reduce the squad by the time he was sacked, moving on some utter dross. When added to the released list that Wilder drew up, Wilder had virtually a blank slate coming into the job – which while challenging in terms of having to recruit must have been a dream in terms of flexibility.

Adkins room for manoeuvre was severally handicapped after the poison chalice of inheriting a massively bloated over-paid squad of shite on long contracts.. The wage bill was over 100% of turnover completely unsustainable as Chuff had had the boards trousers round their ankles. The board backed him with investment which was wasted apart from Billy> This mater stroke for me puts him well in credit over his other signing failures.

Thank feck Wilder had the opportunity to fuck off 15 or so many dross players at the end of their contracts, pay up others, and finally get a succesful transfer policy sorted.

As I've said on here before, he rode the machine that Les Reed has built at Southampton, and with the talent that club has produced in the last decade (Bale, Walcott, Ox, Llalanna, etc) I could have got them out of League One.

He built a reputation off the back of someone else's work and has been proved as a fraud ever since.

He was without doubt a nicer bloke than the Nigel who we had immediately before him.

But we could have appointed Gengis Khan and achieved the same effect.

I think you have a point but the signings of Moore, O Connell, Fleck , Duffy and Wright were huge reasons behind the improvement too. The recruitment was excellent last season (and this given the lack of funds) .

I wanted Adkins to stay. I didn't think every would get anywhere continually sacking managers but in hindsight sacking him was the best thing we've done for years.

What did it for me was towards the end or at the end of the season he tweeted something about Lloyd Isgrove of Barnsley who had just won promotion with Barnsley and credited himself as the Manager who gave him his debut.

When you dissect that tweet - He congratulated a local rival who pipped us to promotion, cuntishly took some credit for another players career and the worst thing is that whilst young, capable players like LI were available instead he brought in Woolford and Hammond.

Nige - You spout bollocks, delude yourself that you're a forward thinking, progressive coach and throughout your tenure at United pissed on our back and tried to convince us it was raining.


Without a doubt he hung around the Hull owner and fooled him too.

A strong manager would have managed to get the Sammon deal cancelled if he didn’t fancy it. Or at least bomb him out of the club rather than playing him in most matches.

You know a bit like Wilder did when he was saddled with Hammond for a season by Adkins.

Adkins also tried to blame Clough for the players not being fit enough despite having a full pre-season to implement whatever fitness regime he saw fit.

He was a disaster as the man to get us out of League One, but he was, and is a thoroughly decent fellow, who let's not forget had the class to send his congratulations when we did get promoted last year.

Didn't have to do that after the dogs abuse he got in those final games, and that excruciating lap of dishonour after the Scunthorpe game, deserved IMO, but no point dwelling in the past, it did help the stars align, and get us Lord Wilder.
