Adkins on P or G

A bit of fear can be a strong ally in management ,as long as respect is an equal quality. All the best managers had a bit of fear and unpredictabilty about them. Nigel seems very nice and that can easily turn into soft touch if your a thick footballer with a massive ego and pockets full of cash. Clough was a disciplinarian ,and probably did get carried away but he didn't take no shit and was a good motivator and organiser. I have seen nothing from adkins to see things changing soon and at the moment lets be honest ,he is living on past reputation alone. He is in danger of losing the fans ,and it is a very long way back once that happens. I think a bit of honesty from him ,instead of these bullshit ,stereotype interviews might help ,but he is reaching a precipice and he has to address it sharpish.

I don't disagree with that but I lost any remaining respect for Clough when I heard some insider information (the one and only time I've been ITK!).

Adkins comes across as smart enough to realise that the problems at the club run deep but he can't outwardly address them without losing what's left of the dressing room. It's pretty evident that he's currently trying to clear out an element in the dressing room he sees as disruptive but he's also hamstrung by the fact that his recruitment hasn't worked - players he's worked with before are not anywhere near as good as he thought (Woolford, Hammond).

There's also, it seems to me, some serious budgetary constraints at the Lane and that's the final piece in this particularly shit jigsaw. It really doesn't help the mood of Blades everywhere that those jammy fuckers across the city seem to have lucked out with a change in ownership while we flounder in the middle of League One.

So what did you hear?

Adkins is too matey and soft

Clough is too uncompromising and harsh

Blackwell was a bully

Wilson stood with his hands in his pockets

Different managers have different styles. None of the above dictates success. Perhaps Clough built a squad that only responds to harsh, disciplinarian management styles. Maybe that's why they're struggling under Adkins. Perhaps Adkins will bring in players who respond to his positivity.

Or maybe some are still bitter because they thought they were linking up with their gaffer Clough and six months down the line he's been sacked.

Allowing Clough to spend so much money last Jan and then sacking him at the end of the season was as stupid a decision as all the other fucking stupid decisions our fucking stupid board have made in the last ten years, starting with not renewing Warnock's contract and then letting him sign 'players for the future' and continuing to include pretty much every major decision made since.

Treeton Blade / BushBlade Not much - just regarding one player who Clough stopped talking to (not the usual suspects) and who had cleared out his locker at the end of last season having not had any communication from the boss in 8 months. The wider message was that Clough would take umbrage at one small perceived slight then you were done: there was no chance of them being picked for the first team, he'd walk past at Shirecliffe and blank them - not my idea of garnering respect.

That player, by the way, is still at the club.

That's quite old school but I've heard a lot of the old managers were like that. If you were out, even through injury, they'd ignore you.

Collins or Diego?

Clough fell out with Collins big style and made him move out of the senior players area and move all his kit in with the kids. I've heard he didn't like being challenged in any way.

As Balham said not the usual suspects, I'd be stunned if it were either of those.

It's one of those stories that writes itself.

Manager is too strict/matey. The players respond better to responsibility/order.

Good point about those who need "structure" not being able to perform under Adkins' management style.
