Adkins... No better than Clough... But....

Come on Wincobank, we'll be having none of that negativity on these parts.
it's negativity about the negativity - the premature talk of getting rid of Adkins and those saying that the manager with the best track record we could have hoped to get has become crap in the space of a few months. We've not had the start we wanted but that is bollocks.

He will be here at least one more season.

I'd like to think that but I suspect, from a couple of things he's said in interviews (like "we HAVE to get up THIS season") , that he's been told it has to be this season.

Wow! A striker missing chances! Whatever next.

Of that list of 5, I'd say only Hammond had failed to impress at all and he's neither fit nor has he been here long

Sharp has surprised me and shown much more class and leadership than many of our other 'captains' in the team

Adkins biggest mistake was bringing Collins anywhere near the first team
Agree with that wholeheartedly but whilst I'm not someone that would want to build a team around Collins, I think that's a bit harsh. From what I've seen he's been far from a bomb scare.

I'm almost as frustrated as you Z believe me but I don't think we will be stuck in this shit hole of a league for another three seasons.

Disappointing result today but performance [in parts] was as good as I've seen this season - a lot better than Tuesday that's for sure. I think we will get better and I think we should see where we stand post Christmas. If we remain in touching distance, and I think we can, the second half of the season might prove to be a whole new ball game.

Personally Z, I think it's madness to even be talking about 'binning' another manager, I really do.
I don't get the theory that today was better than Tuesday. On Tuesday we scored early, dominated possession, restricted the opposition to a half chance, kept a clean sheet, bagged a couple later on and then killed the game Mourinho style to the point everyone started fucking about with the lights on their phones knowing nothing of note was going to happen from that point on. It was the perfect crime, if a little boring. However, in the last 20 years I can only speak of a handful of games that properly etched something in my psyche, really, what do you all expect when you walk down to third division stalwarts SUFC ?

I think that all down to what type of new team we build next season, a 2nd or 3rd division one.

Too soon to be talking about dumping him IMO. However if we don't go up this season he probably will get sacked anyway. I can't see that moving us forward, and after that I would think it would be hard to attract any managers with a decent track record to come here and take this poisoned chalice. So maybe then we'd be looking at an unproven first time manager, then when that goes tits up replace him with one with a mediocre record from a non league club??

Agree that we shouldn't dump him, he's probably got the best CV for this level and somehow McC landed him.
I'm just pointing out that who ever the manager is next seson will not matter as they will be working with a totally new squad for the first time in donkeys years.

If we don't go up it will set us back years but that can't all be laid at Adkins door the board need to take most of the blame for being too trigger happy, every 18 months we 'start again'.

Next season we really do 'start again', lets all hope its at the second tier with our decent manager.

I still think Clough would not have us in 6th, we'd be pushing the top two because it's his squad and he would [???] have sorted the defence..

why a totally new squad? I know some contracts are due to expire, and it will be an opportunity to get rid of some of Clough's dross, but a complete rebuild from scratch? Takes time for a new team to gel and sounds very risky to me, especially if we do go up, spend a lot to build a 2nd division team and then it doesn't work and we come back down to L1 with an even bigger wage bill than we have now.

I don't think he's signed Sharp and Hammond (and with the talk there's been about possibly making it permanent in January) with a 3rd division team in mind.

Because they'll be no bugger left at the end of the season.

All the Adkins period has proved is that Clough wasn't quite the cretin we believed he was. Really there is only so much a manager can do, if Sharp had scored that tap in at Oldham we'd of been going into the Millwall game on the back of three victories.
