Adkins, is it just me ...

Too many on here with entrenched views about Clough and I don't buy all this Adkins inherited crap rubbish. What is a fact is we finished 5th last season and made a cup semi drawing 2-2 in the second leg v a team that may well be premier league champions.

We are now 10th or wherever after 10 months of his reign and he's strengthened by bringing in rubbish like sammon, woolford and Hammond...all past it , overpaid mistakes.

It doesn't bode well especially as many on here have pointed out all we needed was 3 players in key areas to kick on again.

I don't think we should get rid of him and keep making the same mistakes but let's hope this clear out continues and the likes of Hammond aren't signed permanently

Yeah i think there has been a huge bit of 'Adkins - the passenger' allowing things to form naturally, then intervening... It gives him a stronger position, alternatively he might have just thrown the cards in the air and see how they land... But it seems like there has been at least part of this which seems deliberate.

I think this probably leads us back to the retained list, we're starting to get a clearer picture of the basis for the squad for next season and i think the 10 on your list (plus Adams) along with Question marks over Flynn, Flo and JMac( surprised that i've even written his name) as possibles to keep gives us another 4-6 to add.

Presumably then, that gives us

1. Hammond
2. Clinton Baptiste
3. Agile and fast striker
4. Winger
5. Agile and fit Midfielder
6. Another Centre Half or fullback
we've all been saying 4 5 and 6 for nearly two seasons.. it isn't really that difficult
if hammond, sammon and woeford are the solution to this long term approach then i'm really worried

There has been no progress. I would be very surprised if he starts as manager next season.

Get what you are saying but we have gone backwards because we sacked the manager who was building something. So we sack this one half way through his contract when once more he is building something. I don't know what it is about us but every time we change managers we get it more wrong than before.

it depends what he is building. i can't see anything being built

I understand that he wants to build his own team, but he clearly has taken us backwards. The whole season has been another mess and he has to take a very big slice of responsibility for the team performances and lack of passion on the pitch.

I just don't understand what they do all week while preparing for the League games.

You can't see Hammond's "unseen work" because it's errrm. . . . unseen?
yeah i know that.. but that means like a black hole you can watch the effect he has on things around him.. doesn't seem to have any therefore he doesn't exist??

I thought the penny had finally dropped with him last weekend. He picked a daring team last week by starting Whiteman in midfield and sticking with Adams upfront to work on a partnership with Sharp who will be our front two next season. In return he got a committed display with the team in full control and the fans encouraging them in return.

This week we revert to type by dropping the two teenagers in favour of Cuvelier (why? Whiteman played well last week) and Sammon (again, why? Adkins himself said a few weeks back that signing him hasn't worked out and he's fucking wank and stealing a wage. What had Adams done to justify being dropped in favour of him?)

And unsurprisingly we have lost again, and much of the good feeling from last weeks assured display has drained away. Well done again Adkins.

The rebuild.

Is there any evidence that Adkins can identify & recruit vibrant young talent?

Admittedly, we've seen he can spot 30+ year olds on their way down, but is he genuinely capable of transforming a football club (rather than riding the crest of a wave at stable football clubs)? It's a seriously big task this summer, needing a decisive character & someone with bottle, someone willing to trust youth.

If he's not, then put him out of his misery & fuck him off. He's had rookie managers like Neil Harris & Gary Caldwell take the piss out of him all season tbf.

I don't think he has it in him.

For all the talk of his great CV, he's never faced a more difficult challenge than the one he faces with us.

He's turned a top 6 team in to a mid table team in less than a year and we now entrust him to build a team to deliver a top 2 finish?

I was really excited at his arrival, now I am just confused how such an experienced manager with such a good CV has not ignited a spark of enthusiasm and passion into the squad. Missing out on the Play-offs is a huge failure for this club. I would be disappointed with the fact that we have to sack yet another manager, but has he done enough to be in charge next season?
Some big decisions ahead for the board.

Must be sleight of hand or an invisibility cloak, like someone said on another thread- the emperors new clothes-if you can't see Hammonds worth then you are a moron

McCabe and Co, to be fair to the board have a real dilemma . On one hand they have made a rod for there own back with there record of sacking managers . On the other hand can they trust Adkins to turn this around and spend money wisely .

If it was me pulling the strings at the lane and my money keeping the club afloat ,I would be worried . Think that would be the thought of the majority of fans.

Sorry to say this , but if Adkins does get the boot , I will not be crying over spilt milk . We do seem to be going further backwards , and the loan players seem as poor as the ones they have replaced. We are going from bad to worst , and thankfully we are not in the relegation dog fight or we would be looking at league 2 , with Adkins running the show.

Let's start again next season with a clean sweep on all fronts , including manager.

First time for a long time , that perhaps we all feel for the board having to make a decision about a managers future. Apathy is creeping in big style , so the majority of fans will not be bothered either way. I have gone past the point of caring about Adkins . He to me this season his part of the cause ruining my football club.

Spot on. I've liked you and if I could I would bloody love you mate.

I'm still behind him, but if we don't win against Crewe we have 3 tricky games to follow and I fear a bit for his position.

I'd say you had a point until the past couple of weeks. Players leaving on loan and I expect for the future not expected to return show that we are at least trimming the squad. I would more suggest he is building something for next season.

I think he made a misjudgement for one for two reasons.

1. He saw a potential of play-offs again and lost his nerves playing the youngsters

2. He looked at the Millwall team and decided to protect them.

What da fuck is he building and how? If I could see that I might have more hope.

He inherited a squad which was full of ageing, injured underperformers and no adequate leaders.

A squad devoid of strength, height, pace, guile, fight, determination and bottle !!

A squad packed with problems ( McNuts, Baxter, Collins etc )

The squad requires a massive culling ( currently underway but only partially completed ) and the influx of quality I'm all areas ....... GK, FB, CH, MF, Wing, CF.

This will be a defining summer which will decide if we spend a "sixth" year in this agricultural division, which is what will happen if we don't clearout and replace most of the squad.

UTB & FTP

I'd come around to the idea that the cull was a plan, Adkins had inherited the plan and this season was nowt to do with his failings but.......

.......Any fucker who thinks Salmon is a footballer should be shot.

Any pro who plays him ahead of a kid with speed and the ability to pull something off because he 'showed' in trading is a dick.

Salmon and Hammond in the squad come August then you can fuck right off Adkins.
