... or is anybody else seriously worried where the club is going under this c**t?

He inherited a squad that had plenty of quality in certain areas but lacked in other parts i.e. height, strength and leadership straight down the spine of the team. Since then nearly all the better / good players have either been under performing/under motivated, bombed out of the team or sold, or a combination of the whole 3, to be replaced by a load of rubbish that Adkins has brought in. None of them have been a resounding success, many of them have been down right awful but it looks as though now the club's hierarchy are trusting the future of the club in the hands of someone who is pushing out good players and replacing them with crap.

This is what happened with Haslam in the late 70s and early 80s and we ended up going down 2 levels to the fourth division. Where do they stop with Adkins, sack him when we're in the Conference? Get shut and get shut now McCabe before this gets really ugly.

Hmmmmmmm..... name two areas and you win a coconut.

I have reservations about Adkins but inheriting a squad with "quality in certain areas" he most certainly did not. Weak keepers poor central defence, slow midfield, no centre forward. He had one decent winger who was sold after game one.

...Bollocks.

Am also trying to understand why not fulfilling expectations in the first few months of a difficult job would make you a c**t.
Is it just the mixture of tribal sport mentality, moderately heavy beer and anonymous message boards that justifies the unsavoury moniker?
The point could have been intelligently proposed (for the umpteenth time on this board) without the gutter language.

Yeah it's all Adkins' fault because his predecessor definitely wasn't a complete bell-end who made a multitude of shit signings, leading the club to spending most of its money on wages.

They fought like lions under Clough and the dismal capitulations at home to the likes of Fleetwood and Crewe were just divine misfortune.

Seldom has such bollocks appeared on thi sforum Look at the big picture Our young prospects 16 unbeaten. Deadwood now
going out of the door Heading in the right direction though time and patience are needed.

Although he's quite painful to listen to and the results have not been any better, I think he will end up doing a good job.

If you look at the players who have left, I don't think the majority would disagree with and by the end of the season his only signings will be Sharp and Woolford (yes I know Hammond might come)

What he is doing with the U18/U21 pathway through to the senior squad should have been the approach for many many many years. If he doesn't succeed then the new many should be chosen because he is going to carry this on. Young players need to play, whether that be for us or on loan.

Adkins inherited a very average squad but what is indisputable is that he has been hopeless so far. Our league position and the vast majority of our performances prove that.

The end of season school report for Adkins will not make good reading and which ever way you look at it , this season up to date has been a failure . Adkins , I believe , thought he could get extra miles out of players over and above what Clough achieved. This has not happened. A good manager / coach can turn a very average squad into a winning one .

If we had not been so trigger happy in the past , Adkins would have got the sack.

The guy is still in a job at BDTBL and looks like he has commenced building plans for next season.

Will we be glad that McCabe did not pull the trigger , time will tell , but performances to date have been unacceptable and abysmal . It cannot be all the players doing , as Adkins says the buck stops with him.

We are sticking with Adkins , so we have to give him our support and backing , along with any new players he signs or youngsters that come through the ranks .

The biggest things to tip the situation in his favour are his 4 past promotions, he's been there and done it before.

The biggest reasons for sacking him are his performances at Reading and SUFC, both of which are his most recent efforts.

Seriously there is no alternative but to hope he has a good summer and to give him the full season to succeed or fail. That will be long enough I think, probably not before though in view of the size of the task as it has turned out, largely because of the way he has managed us this season oddly enough. He should have done a lot, lot better.

Forget the interviews, forget the cliches, forget the results and to an extent the performances. Look at whats happened in two months. I think Adkins has finally started to make some progress/ grow a pair of Bollocks. If you’d asked me a few weeks ago, perhaps before Burton at home, I did wonder the same. Even bringing in the Psychic, Baptiste, I wondered what he was doing wasting money on a loan when he had a squad of youngsters to pick from in a lost season.

However, Baptiste coming in, Whiteman, Reed, Flo all contributing to a seemingly improved midfield, Collins (and hopefully JCR) going out and changing the set up to suit the players we have rather than the ones he thinks we have are all contributing a more optimistic Blade.

Of course, I’ve not watched us play in a month, so the games over easter will perhaps change my view, but my view at the moment is that he’s making the right changes and perhaps tearing up the boardroom model.

Since Burton, since McCabe spoke out at the unrest, since the awful transfer window in January, I get the impression something has gone off behind the scenes and not negatively. I’m not creating a rumour here, but surmising from the above that perhaps the rhetoric that Adkins was given in June last year that it was all Clough’s fault has been discussed. I get the distinct impression that Adkins briefing was that ‘whatever Clough did, undo it’. Its not being disrespectful to Adkins, I believe that he was under instruction. He gets Diego, Sharp, Woolford permanently, but the club were selling Murphy. The rest would be loans, including Sammon. He had a framework to work within.

What I think has happened is that Adkins has perhaps been asked whats going wrong and he’s turned around and said “lets do it my way”. What he’s done is root out the remaining trouble causers, brushed aside the fragile players that can’t string together a few games , regardless of potential talent and tweak things. Of course there are still boundaries, he’s been pushed to play some of the kids too, but he’s picking the right ones by the looks of it.

I’m in no way calling Adkins a mastermind, he has steered us during the worst season in my memory, but sinking to 13th in League one has awoken a few people in the club. Yes Adkins has had quality and talent in the squad that he inherited, but James Wallace, Baxter, JCR, McNulty were perhaps hiding behind reputations. Someone mentioned last week that Hammond will be pissed off that Whiteman has come in and shown him up. I’d say that the likes of Wallace, Baxter, JCR, McNulty, Diego and Collins will be looking at themselves and asking more questions. As Warnock used to say, footballers will always blame someone else, never themselves.

Adkins is far from perfect, but I think things are now changing. This summer needs a focussed approach. Reputations secondary, desire to play for a team the priority. I think Adkins is grasping this. Forget his clichéd interviews, step back and look at what has been done in the last 8 weeks. I’d say we’ve made more progress in that 8 week spell than the 8 months before.

Have a like. I am with you on this.

I have mentioned this a few times but he is taking a similar route to Mauricio Pochettino when he 1st joined Tottenham. He allowed the players too much clout and allowed the players to vote their captains etc; and he trusted them. For his sins, he got Younis Kaboul as captain, Adebayor as the 2nd captain with Lloris 3rd. Pochettino is also well known for having committees like Adkins (maybe something he carried on at Southampton). The French had too much influence over the team from AVB days and it took Pochettino time to ease them out (maybe this is the same with the Scots and Scousers). He then turned to youngsters who were hungry to succeed and young players like Mason got their wings. It's very hard to influence a player who has been there and done it but youngsters should always buy into what you're trying to achieve.

Now we have young lads who follow Adkins and believe he can be good for their careers, and that is the pathway Adkins needed to create to be a success at this club. Suddenly although we have 15 or so players out of contract at the end of the season, our squad won't look so weak to build from. Players like Reed, Whiteman and Adams will get more games and their confidence will grow.

Long
Ramsdale (for the bench, but emergency get emergency loan if Long injured)
Brayford
Basham
Wallace
Reed
Whiteman
Sharp
Done
DCL (still a little unsure his problem is nerves)

Maybe keep Flynn and Cuvellier if they stay fit.

This already looks a stronger building block than anything Adkins had to start with.

We had a really nice Nova GSI and it had quite a performance compared to its peers, saw it about 7 years after we'd flogged it and flagged down the driver.

Was shocked at how poor it was and the condition it was in, it really had had its time.

Language Timothy, i discarded the post after the first paragraph.

Remind me - Last season we finished in the top six and lost out by one goal in the play off semi final
This year we are currently 11th in the division trailing clubs like Burton, Walsall, Gillingham, Port Vale, Southend and Barnsley
Now that's what I call Progress !

Irrespective of who the manager is you me or anyone else you cannot walk into a football club, evaluate all the players, work out a system to suit those players . Buy new players and win promotion in ten months. Please tell us how it is done as we would all like to know. As would hundreds of other managers.

What a completely simplistic way to describe the semi final. Beaten at home due to baffling changes made following Brayfords injury snd never in the second leg apart from the last 3 minutes.

Lost out by one goal though aye!
:D

But it takes time to weed out those same players who only managed a top 6 finish and failed to beat the mighty Swindon over 2 legs. Yes, we should have done much better this season but sometimes you have to take a step backwards to take two forwards, Adkins is not responsible for anything prior to this season.

Pretty significant weaknesses IMO. Ridiculous OP.

First up the OP is a pile, we agree there. Your hell fire on Clough however is inaccurate. We got players in who in the final part of his first year were on fire. He in no small part stopped us getting relegated. Players like Brayford came because of him. While last season ultimately ended in failure had he been given another season we would be further forward than we are now. The problem isnt the manager it is that we keep sacking them before they have finished the job.

Most of the footballing world looked on aghast when we fired Clough. With good reason.

Breathing life and sense into an otherwise dog shit of a thread. Dont agree with all of it but it is well reasoned. Good work sir.
