If we field a team containing Long, Reed, Whiteman, DCL, Adams, K.Wallace and McGahey we will get tanked in this division ,unless the other 4 are Messi ,Ronaldo , Suarez and Robben.

Like you say Sitwell, we are poles apart in our outlooks.

It was conjecture actually but in any case, winning the game is not the point unless you think we can reach the play-offs and then win them. Actually, personally I wouldn't pick McGahey in any case!!

It's about the future and it's about utilising, grounding and judging enough kids to be able to sign a good value playing squad to complement them next season. even most of the new recruits should be young, mobile and fast.

I take it you don't want me to quote you on Reed and Long for the record. And by the way Baptiste might be mixed race, keep up.

We could conceivably have a (rounded up to) 50% Academy team tomorrow.

Long, Reed, Whiteman, DCL, Billy.
I don't really care about tomorrow, but if we start next season relying on these academy players, it might finish me off.

To a man, fucking miles away from what's required. That's before you throw in the acidic atmosphere (inevitable, like it or not) of fans feeling short changed for yet another season.

I knew this Academy lark would get a response :)

But...wait for it...I think it's part of our philosophy. :D

Quote what you want ,for what its worth I don't think either of them are good enough atm and only if Reed fills out will he be in the future. This shit about the future is just that ,shit about the future ,its the worst excuse in the world ,as in its the one that every manager in football can roll out when they have played shit. You are always planning for the future ,Barcelona are doing now ,there has to be a mix of young and experience. Winning every game is the point ,always , that's why you play. Sick of half baked excuses ,and don't plan for next season ,plan for this ,we might be even lower next season.
Always pick a team to win, always pick your strongest team.
Well noticed with Baptiste. we still lost.

Yep. A decade of failure and counting, unfortunately. But something will click if we cross enough things.

We've got people claiming Louis Reed is a real talent. That's how far we've fallen.

Decent interview if you overlook his usual sayings.

Adkins is clearly planning long term which is something the club has never done. In fact it's employed people that don't see beyond the end of their nose or their bank balance.

This game is a strange one. In many ways it has no significance attached to it, in others it will be very telling.

I'm not one for constantly sacking managers but if we lose again tomorrow (which will in all likelihood put us in the bottom half) then I see no reason why Adkins will be allowed to continue as manager. To be in the position we are with any group of players in this league is shameful and its reached the point where both the manager and players take a large share of the blame, not just the board.

If Wilson and Clough were worthy of the sack then why not the latest manager. Seems a bit unfair that he would be treated differently to me.

Why keep sacking managers again and again though? Do we just want to continue the spiral of shit we are in?

Clough would still be here had it not all gone wrong in the boardroom after last season.

I agree that sacking managers over and over has not helped us but you have to look at each case on its own merits. Wilson's sacking, ridiculous.....Clough's sacking, harsh at best. Weir for instance, no doubt it was the right decision.....

Sticking with a manager simply because a history of doing the opposite hasn't worked is foolish. We have a team that has lost one good player and recruited at least one good player since the end of last season. Yet they sit 12th, 7 places lower than their end of season position in an arguably weaker division. Buck stops with the board for long term failings, buck stops with the manager for short term ones.

A bad United side should finish top eight in this division. The manager is not exempt from blame no matter what. He's performing poorly.

How do you rate Reed?

I think he has enormous potential but his main weakness is being bullied off the ball.

(I also blame him for the Shrewsbury debacle - which may be a bit unfair.)

He really should score more goals. Or any goals. I think that can be readily coached, but is down to confidence and calmness.

I even spent a while looking at Xavi/Iniesta videos to see how they retain possession, and wondered if there's anything he could learn from them in that part of his game.

Someone had even posted a video highlighting this very topic: the headline is Crazy Illusionista which is fanboy stuff, but the first line of the description is Turns and retaining the ball and made interesting watching:

Just a prospect. He's so small that he needs to excel in some way. Strength, speed, technical ability, eye for goal. Right now, I don't see any.

I'd expect him to finish up between the third division and semi pro football.

Reed's OK apart from being too small; too nervous; too lightweight; has no forward vision; can't pass and certainly can't fucking shoot. Personally, I quite like him.
