yes, a well crafted post - and HOW long has Dean Smith been in charge at Walsall?

Since 2011...............and he played for them too.

I hope Adkins gets that long as I would "hope" to be banging on the Premiership door after that long.

Apologies pressed the wrong button!

Yes Smith (also ex Wednesday) has had the luxury of time & crucially lower, much lower expectation levels, however on yesterday's viewing he has used his time effectively & with the undoubted budget constraints that average crowds of 5,000 dictate, impressively - as have several other clubs in this division.

The challenge for our management team is to motivate & foster a team spirit, am presently reading "match of my life" the chapters on several of the Bassett team - Whitehouse, Kelly & Booker, provide an illuminating incite into the unswerving team spirit that Bassett instilled and which delivered outstanding results.

Please explain how that constitutes being sussed?

The fact there isn't anything to actually be sussed might make that slightly difficult.

Please think what you like though. I care lots.

I've got you sussed; you are actually incredibly dull. I know I said the other day that you were far too much good fun to 'ignore' but I'm having second thoughts, really I am.

You see, the thing is, you have nothing to say, and the 'nothing' you do say is so boring; one-paced, lacking in intellect, devoid of reason, humourless, and yet somehow you maintain a nose-in-the-air superiority which is undeserved to say the least.

And you have no view on ANYTHING else. Please, at least tell us a funny story about how you went to an away match in a clapped-out Cortina once, or how ridiculously hot the pies are at Crystal Palace.

Failing that, just admit that Adkins shagged your missus once and then we'd all understand.

I'm tempted to get started on what you bring to the forum. It shouldn't take long...

Shield has written an article in the Telegraph where Adkins is quoted as saying we had no recruitment department as such. That he and Turnbull have put this together. I'm pretty sure he's talking about us and not a previous situation at Scunthorpe.

And we wonder why we're in the mess we are ?

Hopefully Nigel can sort out the whole sorry mess.

The entire club needs a lift with 3 points on Tuesday.

Maybe the penny has finally dropped in the Boardroom!

Adkins is a positive man but he is not stupid.

Who has heard him say "promotion is essential this season" for a while?

makes sense.. we don't have hardly 'any' foreign players. .only a couple of black guys. our team looks pretty weird actually

Whatever you or I think about the current predicament the club finds itself in, there are some compelling facts that simply can't be ignored or papered over.

Firstly, we have the biggest crowds, biggest budget, best training facilities in other words the biggest & best infrastructure in this division in which to support the playing side, an example of this is that last season Chesterfield's annual wage bill was £1.8m, I suspect that the combined wages of Sharp, Hammond, Sammon, Collins and Brayford amounts to this alone - I accept that this alone is no guarantee of success but demonstrates we have the resources to attract a class of player that no other team in this division can and with these & other players (Done, Che, etc) this should be more than capable of getting us into s position to be competitive & challenge for an automatic promotion spot.

So, with the above in mind one has to look at the manager & his ability to gel the players & produce performances & coach tactics that deliver the levels of performances & results, sadly this I believe is the issue - allow me to elaborate.

I was at Walsall yesterday where we were comprehensively outplayed by a team with none of the infrastructure or size of budget or any of the other things we have. Man for man they were fitter & technically superior, they employed a style of play & tactics that they all understood & were comfortable with and which suited their players strengths.

In contrast we were leaden footed and displayed none of the technical capabilities - good first touch, able to pass to their own players, movement off the ball, quick feet, to which Walsall have.

Whilst I agree with other posters on this site who allude to other deeper issues within the club which are undoubtedly affecting and influencing the situation, the players performances and managerial deficiencies can not be ignored.

I believe the club needs a good football brain in the role of Director of football, the club the size of ours demands that someone with sound football experience & a measured management style should be brought in to guide the club in implementing both short & long term plans & importantly to assist with the clubs transfer policy.

I believe the manager is struggling with expectation levels, timescales and impatient owners demands, these alone will create and drive flawed decision making.
I don't really disagree with any of that. However, I have no confidence in anyone on our board to be able to find a suitable Director of Football. I also think that a DoF is likely to want to choose his own manager and that bringing in a DoF above an existing manager is likely to create friction. The time to have done it was after Wilson but we couldn't even attract a decent manager without KM's divine intervention.

The new owner has only been here just over 2 years. Clough probably departed for that very reason. I think the new owner learns very quickly!
Hope so. Maybe he can send Jim to one of the other clubs owned by Arabs or Americans to see how a football club should actually be run. He must have a few connections.
I suspect this is the tip of the iceberg and there are other fundamentals that we're either not doing or doing very badly. Don't ask me what, I've no idea but something doesn't add up.
