Got a family friend who used to play with Adkins at Wigan who attended a dinner before Christmas, where Adkins and some players attended. He had a word with him and Adkins expressed his squad problems. From what I have been told, Adkins is having problems dealing with such a big squad (getting them games and keeping them motivated).
Feel bad for Adkins in that respect, inheriting a huge squad of average player. Also sounds like NO more than 1/2 players will come in this window, only if a major amount of players go.
He also hinted to our friend that building again in the Summer is a target.

20,000 of us could have said exactly the same, as mentioned by your family friend . Just something Adkins and all us blades have to live with.

His problem is convincing other clubs to take the players we don't want. He hasn't done too bad offloading players on loan. He could do with Higdon going on a permanent deal.

Who like me thought in pre-season this squad only needed a tweak here and there and maybe a swift toe up the arse to get it promoted?
Now it seems to many that this is the worst squad ever asembled and needs wholesale changes to even achieve a win.
A new manager almost always drops a bomb on a squad when they arrive. Nobody wants to win promotion with someone else's team.
I feel both Danny Wilson and Nigel Clough would have got us up if given that magical 3rd season. I hope Nigel Adkins is afforded enough time to build his own squad, but alas I fear he won't.

Think he will be given the time.
Lots of players out of contract in the summer, and it will be more of an Adkins team next season.

Ive never had such an outlook on the squad as I do now.

I am 100% more bothered about seeing players leave than I am of arriving.

We've given far too many players an easy pay day, and continue to do so. We need to move them on and get down to the bare bones and let Adkins build a team around his philosophy.

Its the only way if we want to see a Norwich/Southampton/Bournemouth surge through the leagues.

I don't think any of that is surprising. Adkins has said he wants a smaller squad which has a pathway for the academy players to go through, and that all the established pros want to play so it's challenging. He's also said he's looking to bring 2 people in permanently. This is known publicly.

I'm personally fed up of players coming to this club, holding up the shirt or scarf at the press conference, proclaiming what an honour it is to play for such a "big"club. . . Then not fucking performing on the field.
