Player Suggestion Adam Webster

I’d take Webster ahead of Souttar all day long. It’s a very similar gamble injury-wise but without the large signing fee. At 31 Webster is only just past his prime … and his prime has been as a top premier league centre-half. He’s exactly the type of physically dominant presence we need and is an experienced leader. I agree with the comments on McGuinness too… would love to see him stay and develop further with us… his attitude has been exemplary. He and Baptiste will benefit hugely from having Webster at the club. I’ve nothing against Souttar but this deal makes far more sense in our current financial situation.

Really? Is/was he that good? I dont really get to see many Premier League games nowadays.
Yeah he is good, him and Lewis Dunk were really formidable together for Brighton for quite a few seasons.

Injuries kept him out every now and then before he eventually lost his place to Van Hecke.

Webster is exactly the type of defender we've needed - experienced, composed, and a leader. He'll bring calmness and quality to the back line. As long as he stays fit, this could be one of our best signings of the summer.⚔️
You could make the argument that there isn’t much difference between when Hull signed Egan. He missed 275 days after his injury with us. He’s now 33 and back in the PL with Hull and beating Man U.

Webster has missed 312, and before that he played 90 minutes 3x and captained in the final game. He’s still only 31.

We really need to take some inspiration from Hull.

Even objectively you’d have to say:

Webster > Egan
Phillips > Lundstram

Just a question of fitness now.

Is he back in training yet?
Anyone know???

Guess we get to see whether the injury is career ending or not…coming back from that at 31 is a biggie.

It only makes sense because there is no fee, he has hardly played for 2 seasons and no other club wanted to take the risk

If the fee ended up being far more realistic then I would still be interested in bringing him in

I have no doubt what Webster was, same as I had none on what Davies had been in prem league, it still didn’t end up benefiting us taking Davies on just because we avoided paying a transfer fee

Yep … you’re right that they’re both injury gambles. Souttar maybe has the edge because he’s been playing in the last couple of months whereas Webster needs game time. It’s all about the size of the Souttar fee as you say.
That said, if they were both guaranteed to be fully fit all season, I’d take Webster as he’s the better player and I’d hope we’d spend the fee where it’s needed on some creativity and attacking threat.

I think if both fully fit that’s a fair analysis and yeh you hope we spend it elsewhere

I believe we are looking at Adam Webster ex Brighton. Indeed, its been rumoured he's trained with us. Good addition if fit IMHO however, 31 and just recovering from ACL injury? Thoughts anyone?

Great post tbh Mr Bettis
