Player Suggestion Adam Webster

I mean Webster won’t likely be a starter but a backup along with Baptiste

If he genuinely didn’t have concerns over his ability to play a full season I think someone would have gambled on him

Instead it’d only after window shuts and we couldn’t get anyone else

I still think if we aren’t sticking with McGuiness then our likely starting CB will be a loan

Webster would start every game that he's fit.

He'd be a pretty major coup in fairness. Should be signing at a Premier League team... if he's not broken.

Sounds mad but after Souttar injury he was mostly fine. Think it took Holding a while to get fitness up too.

He came on too late in playoff final though. We should have switched to a 3.

I know he didn't make piles of individual errors, but the drop off in accountability and positional awareness was insane and he made everyone around him look worse because of it.

I cba to pull up the stats, but pretty sure we went from having the best defence to a fairly average one

Played ZERO games last season. Only 14 year before that and 15 one before that. Do wonder why at 31 no one has signed him? Giving me Ben Mee vibes this but seems that is where we are at.

Bad injury last summer - that's the factor. Think he just lost his automatic starting spot to Van Hecke (who is now a £52m player).

Brighton spent about £20m on Webster.

I’m all for taking low cost gambles on the sort of quality we couldn’t otherwise afford. (Hi Kalvin)

But unless Baptiste is ready and McGuinness now deemed viable, we’d need a lower risk signing in the same position if we going this route.

So Wilder wouldn't play Rob Holding but he will play Webster who's been far more compromised by injury?
I genuinely had to take a moment there to cross-check the fact Holding had played for us then! Totally forgot about it.

It does feel like we are on a big slide with these signings doesn't it?

Most players we sign are now the wrong side of 30, have barely played in years and have questionable recent injury records.

That's pretty standard set of injuries until 23/24 (particularly in terms of games missed).

It goes without saying that the massive worry is that cruciate. And the need for a... * sound the klaxon * proper pre-season.

You can see why Brighton decided not to renew. There's no reason to think his career is over now though... Unless he signs for us, in which case, it probably is.

So he has dodgy ankles, groin issues, weak hammys and is coming back from an ACL injury.
There's also the issue of the "Knock" that kept him sidelined for 62, yes 62 days.
Won't need the Sniper to reload for this one....

Has anyone thought that maybe Wilder signs these injury prone players because if they're fit then they're decent but the gamble is of course getting them fit and we can't currently afford to sign younger, fitter versions like Anel for example.

I'm sure Wilder would prefer to sign Anel! Sometimes our fans come out with stuff like Wilder loves signing injury prone players! We could just sign cheap, crap but fit players but how would that help?! We need players who are decent quality and those that are available in that bracket are often past 30 or approaching 30 but injury prone. I.e Bamford. That's worked well in fairness. Same with Campbell.

Yes of course, it's because they are cheap.

The objection is to the cheapskate nature of it and the fact that you cannot build a promotion winning side relying on many of those players.

for every Bamford and Campbell there is Morrison and Rodwell and Shackleton and Tom Davies and Philips. And Campbell was not exactly a play every minute guy last season.
