The people who want us to have a good keeper as a backup would also be the first ones complaining we were wasting the wage budget on 2 first choice keepers if we did do that.
Exactly.

The days of having a Kelly/Tracey or even a Kenny/Bennett combo are long gone. I think plenty of our fans forget Simon Tracey spent a lot of time out on loan as well.

Davies has been back up Championship level most of his career. My opinion is that he’s dropped right off in standard and confidence owing to a lack of football. I defy any goalkeeper to play as little football as he does and come in and look assured.

Whatever people’s opinions of him are though I’d hope our fans get behind him for these last few games.

As a side note the scrutiny and criticism keepers get these days is ridiculous compared to any other area of the park.

Yeah but you're forgetting how many fans we have whu just like complaing about anything.
2-0 away win? Let's jump on a thread bitching about the keeper.

I don't need a run of games to make an opinion. His decision making, particularly on crosses is poor. When we release him, I expect him to slide down the leagues.

When was the last time you saw him play, in person, in the ground?

PS: per your posting history elsewhere on the forum, I don’t necessarily expect you to tell the truth.

Here's my prediction. He will continue to drop bollocks on a consistent basis for the rest of the season, the defence will still have no confidence in him and he will end up being shipped out to a lower league team. Feel free to bookmark this post. I'll happily ignore the two fuck ups from today.
Mine is he'll cost us a few goals over the next 4 or 5 games, making the playoffs impossible.
Faxon will then finish the season and Davo will be released and picked up by a Div2 or non League team

How's Ivo doing?

For every single goal in that video, he would have done better if he’d just not moved off his line, not even looked at the ball, and stood still with his arms held out. At least then he would have blocked a part of the goal that was two-foot wide. Grbic is the worst player I have ever seen at Bramall Lane, and there is no way at all that Davies should be compared to someone as woeful as him.

If you don’t think you need a keeper to have a run of games before you can judge them properly then you don’t know what you’re talking about and shouldn’t bother sharing your opinion on goalkeepers…
He hasn't had a run of games since he signed for us in 2022, probably because he isn't very good

When have you seen him have a consistent run of games rather than the odd game or cup game where the whole team is terrible?

How many championship teams have what you’d call a competent backup who’s happy to sit on the bench for 40+ games a season?
Couple of years ago now but he had 2 small runs in the team during our 22/23 season under Hecky when Wes was suspended 3/4 games each time.

He was decent in both runs but did make a few mistakes, Norwich at home being a bad performance rescued by a late penalty save.

Hopefully that clean sheet will have given him some confidence though, same with Campbell getting that goal.

Its the right decision to get Cooper fit for next season and Davies now has 12 games to show he deserves a contract. I'll be surprised if he takes his chance because I don't think he's good enough but as stated by others, Cooper was letting in almost every shot anyway.

Dracula Davies dont like crosses.....all i have seen of yesterdays game was the ITV highlights.....it showed us scoring two goals...QPR having a goal dissallowed for offside ..... and two chances one a cross that DD came for and missed completely and the out of the area attempted headed clearance.

As an aside if DD gets injured are we allowed to get an emergency loan goalkeeper as we would only have inexperienced Faxon ?

The highlights do justice tbh what was a really professional away performance ⚔️

What about the one where came haring out of his goal despite two attacker being between the opponent and the goal?

Around the 2:50 mark here.

I'm going to lump on a tenner each week on us to concede from a corner, just to give the remaining games a bit of interest.

The fans definitely got behind him yesterday. His name was chanted on numerous occasions during the game and after the match CW pushed him forward to receive applause.

Sadly I don't think he'll get the same backing at Bramall Lane. The usual moaning minnies will be on his back as usual. I know he's a limited player but why create a negative atmosphere when all it does is further undermine him - same applies to Canon and McGuiness. Some of are fans are all too ready to jump on the bullying bandwagon (mainly at home games from my observation).

Don’t kid yourself they’d have been on his back yesterday if we’d lost and they do get on their backs away just in smaller pockets of people

I know. The thing is at home you hear the same individuals moaning time after time

They both had the uncanny luck for a few years of one of them been out injured for a while, letting the other have a good run of games before eventually getting injured.

I don't have much confidence in Davis at all.
But.
He's all we have.
So we should get behind him.

it's highly unlikely we will make the playoffs. And if we do, we all know what the outcome will be.

So, he's ours now till the end of the season.
Calling him out, and reminding him of his shortcomings won't improve him.

So deal with it. It is what it is.

Yes, the worry he is he gets the George Long treatment first mistake he makes.

There were significant pockets away at Burton in preseason ironically cheering whenever he claimed a routine catch.

Sadly I think some “supporters” see themselves as duty bound to call out mistakes and feel support should be earned.

He had a decent game yesterday tbh but still looked vulnerable on crosses ,particularly the in swinging corners .When we play someone like Wrexham etc with a big target man they will exploit it

If his handling was better on corners and set pieces then I think he would be perfectly okay as a number 2.

He hesitates, which is the worse thing you can do as he isn't committing to either staying on his line or having a go at getting the ball.

He’s captain apparently!

So how bad must they be?

Which bit of “a run of games” do you not understand? Judging a keeper after a run of games where they’re playing consistently is completely different to judging them after seeing them play the odd game every few months.
Agree re the run of games but one thing is irrefutable (and I said exactly the same thing about Grbic the first time i saw him play) is that he has no athletisim about him at all. He can not jump, he doesn't get off the ground and as a result he is extremely dodgy at set pieces and open play crosses.

Note to our recruitment guys before we sign another keeper make sure their vertical leap and/or counter movement jump are up to the level of professional athletes.

I was there. I actually think it was a bit of a piss take and ironic chanting, through trepidation, from our fans tbh!
