Life has been brilliant since Wilder arrived. The fact we're competing with every team in the Premier League is something none of us could have even dreamt of before he arrived. We're at our best in a fair fight. We're well organised and have a system which creates chances.
However, whether it's in League 1, the Championship or the Premier League, we've struggled the most when teams have parked the bus. It happened a fair bit in League 1 but we had too much for most teams. I happened less in the Championship but still, unless Duffy was on form then we did sometimes struggle. Although, getting early goals help[ed a lot.
Tonight again demonstrated that we struggle when the opposition puts 11 players behind the ball. We have no real answer. Sure, we created a few decent chances but they were all quite difficult. I've thought that Freeman would be perfect for this kind of situation. Try to imitate what Duffy did. Play a free role and just keep moving around, dragging players with you and playing short link balls. However, the more I see him, the more he looks out of his depth. Seemingly out of confidence. I assumed Morrison had been signed for this kind of eventuality but the fact he wasn't even on the bench says it all.
In summer, if we stay up (and if every team parked the bus against us we wouldn't), this has to be the first thing addressed. Because, if we do stay up then more team will employ this kind of tactic against us.
We could really use a win on Sunday.
