Carlton Blade Problem nowadays and its been like this for nearly 30 years, is that the whole game is so competitive and for want of a better term, teams are desperate. There is a desperation amongst fans (just look at Leeds and Wednesday recently and the way they have reacted to our promotion). They want their club in the top flight as it will attract 'better' players and amazing times... or so the PR machines will have you believe. But the fans will still drink in the same pubs, eat the same pies and buy the same tat.
The gap between Championship and Premier League in terms of finances is so huge, it's obscene. But this was always going to be the way when the premier league fired up.
I agree that the powers in the game have to do something, but what exactly is hard to know. The FFP doesn't work when the clubs breaching the rules just get a few points docked and a transfer embargo.
It does seem that the EFL tried to do a lot with Bolton to allow them as much time as possible to sort a deal.
There are a lot of outside forces on football clubs, but at the end of the day, the owners themselves have to do more. How can it be right that Fulham can be promoted and suddenly spend £100m on transfers (god knows what they put into wages) and then come straight back down with their soul ripped out (Scott Parker said words to this effect)
I personally don't care about the likes of Coventry, Reading, Bolton and Sunderland. Because for everyone of them there is another club like Accrington willing and able to take their place.
