About time for a Norwood luvin thread

He’s been tremendous. Had a slow start in every game for the first month or so, seemed to take a while to get up to speed in each game and it made us slow starters as he is our playmaker. Since then, absolutely unbelievable. Great yesterday.

I think there must be a case for Ollie Norwood being awarded the goal yesterday ... not seen anyone making the case, but surely that corner was going in and the fact the keeper fumbled it does not make it an OG. Similarly, Liverpool's goal at Bramall Lane was credited to Wijnaldum and was not an OG. Whatever, the way Ollie whipped it in and the bend on it took me right back to the days of the great Alan Woodward. (and btw not ashamed to say the scenes at the end literally brought tears to my eyes).

There was a thread on here suggesting for some reason that Norwood was a toxic influence on the squad when he first joined. It got adopted as an ironic nickname thereafter.

He’s been tremendous. Had a slow start in every game for the first month or so, seemed to take a while to get up to speed in each game and it made us slow starters as he is our playmaker. Since then, absolutely unbelievable. Great yesterday.

Fleck has, or had, a tendency to start slowly. Mark Duffy on the other hand was likely to fade. There was usually a glorious 30 minute period where our midfield was unplayable.

Not long after that, we scored a fair few goals from Norwood's free kick deliveries from out on the right, just back from the penalty area. This was designated the 'Toxic Ollie Zone'.

All I can think is, while Norwood's corner was heading in, when Guaita caught it he was in possession of the ball as it crossed the line. That might supersede whether the initial effort was going in.

You thought he played well in the first half yesterday? I'm surprised even his biggest fan would suggest that.

As I've said in the Shoutbox, I like Norwood. He's got bags of ability when afforded time & space. In congested areas, or when he's being pressed, he's just not quick enough & coughs up possession, often in dangerous areas. Teams have figured this out & are targeting him. His lack of athleticism also exposes us when the opposition have midfielders willing to run at him.

For now, we have nobody better than him for that position so the shirt's his. He's not a major weak link, but if we're looking to progress again next season then his position is the first I'd probably look at.

If he really was "awful" for long periods he wouldn't be playing every week. All our players have specific jobs to do & if they fail to do that then short term they will be hooked & long term replaced. Ollie has many enviable qualities & one or two weak points, but believe me he wouldn't be in the team week after week if he "awful" & not doing his job. When he is on it he is a joy to watch, when he isn't he still puts in the work protecting the back line, & with the quality he has on the ball he can create something out of nothing in an instant.
Some people just like to moan no matter how good things are, & considering just how good things really really are right now for us then frankly they will never enjoy watching us.

Just simply bollocks, he is the one players depend on in tight situations, that is the best part of his game, he has most touches, most passes, most interceptions and in the top 3 miles covered every single game, which kind of shows the athleticism statement is also Cobblers. As for you liking Norwood that is the most ridiculous if the lot, he is the centrepoint of our team which has made it up to 5th in the best league in the world and yet you come on week after week bizarrely slagging him off. Don't know what your problem is with him but if it's not a personal one I think you simply don't understand football. No offence.

The best set piece taker at the club without a doubt, some of his long passes are Tony Currie like and his corners remind me of Woody although he will never generate as much power as Woodward. But there is a case for him scoring two goals from corners this season (Everton and Palace) strikers claim anything that goes in via a deflection so why shouldn't he?
