CONFIRMED Aaron Ramsdale sold to Arsenal

My issue with selling all the players currently touted as leaving for good money or not is this if they go you end up with a squad that has a glaring generational gap in it for the next 3-4 year cycle. If ramsdale, Berge, bogle, mcburnie all leave then we would lack core players for this current cycle under slav. We’d have a squad comprised of older first team players in their late 20’s and early 30’s who would be phased out of the side in the coming years, young kids who won’t be playing near their peak until the end of this cycle (if they’re still here) and limited squad players of the correct age to play through out Slavs time here.

In other words we’d be leaving Lowe, Osborn, Burke, Robinson, Brewster and RND as the medium term building blocks to work with and I’d only be certain about RND panning out as a first 11 player and hopeful about Brewster.

Of course we’d have funds to recruit replacements but you’d be putting a lot of faith in that recruitment working out and working out in volume. Finding 4 first team starting caliber players that work out in one window would be exceptional and akin to the first of wilders windows at the club. Finding those players on top of addressing the deficiencies that sent us down would be nigh on impossible.

I know some of them will leave to find the necessary squad turn over but moving them all on would give us a mountain to climb and not much time to do it in.

Over whether he settled here or not and why we didn’t see him more in match day squads during his time here. That won’t just have been because he was a foreign lad as wilder was more than happy to play Berge and even zivkocovic.

Zivkoic and Panos restos got about 15 minutes between them

Berge is completely differenthe cost £20 mill and he was a wilder signing or suggested and wilder wanted him

Verrips could be the next van der sar or then next mark bunn you cant judge him on anything until he actually gets a chance for us

Wouldnt be devastated about Rammers leaving if it means we give Verrips and an experienced head like Ruddy a go as backup.

Also, if we keep Berge and the other young lads in place, meaning we have a strong core of young players to build around and as minimal upheaval as possible, then all the better

I agree we can’t judge him based on the amount of minutes he’s played for us but that means for me we can’t go into the season with him as the only potential number 1 on the books. We’d be taking a big gamble on an unknown panning out.

That's not true. If we sell we'd have to replace, because none of our backups are at the level required.

You need a good keeper to get promoted, and good keepers aren't cheap. Selling clubs would know how much we'd need one and bump the price up accordingly. I'm not sure the profit margin between selling Rammers and buying his replacement would be worth the bother.
Fair points.

Alarmingly, we already need one decent keeper, unless Verrips is up to the grade. With Moore leaving, Wes being truly subpar, Eastwood unproven and the rest young lads.

We don't then want to be in a position of needing to recruit two.

Arsenal are in talks over a possible deal for Sheffield United’s Aaron Ramsdale, making initial contact with the player’s current club

The Athletic report that along with Ben White and Albert Sambi Lokonga, Arsenal are also in talks over Sheffield United’s Aaron Ramsdale. The Gunners have followed up their interest in signing the 23-year-old by making contact over a potential deal.

Are they signing him to be no.1 or just to keep the bench warm. Can't see him wanting to do that

I thought the same. It's a strange one for Arsenal to be pursuing. I rate him highly but I'm not sure he's ready for the weight of expectation that comes with being at a big club which has done fuck all for years (the odd FA Cup of course, but out of the regular top 4). The Emirates can be a toxic place for any of their own who the fans don't rate, and from what I've read there ain't many of them who rate Ramsdale.

Signing him as a starter has the potential to be a disaster for all parties (except maybe us).

Exactly, wouldn't touch arsenal at the moment. Not the best place for a young player

I wonder what derogatory offer Arsenal might be thinking of this time?

he will probably treble his salary plus being back in the premier league so you couldnt blame him if he wanted to go but lets make sure we get a good deal for him got to be a minimum of 25m or maybe cash plus a player know callum chambers was mentioned on here a while back he would be a perfect fit for us imo

The Atheltic say that ‘initial contact’ between the Gunners and Sheffield United has been made as Arsenal look for a new goalkeeper. And the outlet suggest that with a fee of around £20m-£25m likely it means they have serious designs on him becoming Mikel Arteta’s number one.
“The fee they are prepared to pay for Ramsdale indicates they regard him as someone who can make a significant contribution to the club in the coming years,” claims the report.

That would suggest that Mikel Arteta is looking for a long-term alternative to Bernd Leno

20-25m is laughable for a young England squad keeper with plenty of time on his side, 2 years Premier league experience, tied down long term and not edging for a move. We took a slight gamble at 18.5m and after a slow start it’s looking a very good long term signing. If top clubs want our top players then we should make them pay top prices like everyone else does. It’s time we got rid of our reputation of caving in to piss poor offers

£20-25M is not mentioned in the article at all, so whoever is re-reporting it has made that bit up entirely.

Mixed feelings regards Ramsdale possible departure. He had an excellent second half of the season, hence the interest and I don’t care how many superstars SJ might have on the pitch, if he hasn’t got a decent GK, he wins fk all

On the other hand, if the fee is a good one and we trust SJ to bring in a decent replacement, then I suppose it’s a good luck Aaron, bring it on

I’ll try again.

They are saying that The Athletic article suggests that it’s £20-25M. They’ve made up that figure because it’s nowhere in the article. They also made up the bit about him being their number one.
So, aside from what they’ve made up for entirely I’m sure the Teamtalk article is highly accurate
