The circumstances being fighting off Begovic, Boruc and Travers to establish himself in the team after all 4 had been given a chance last preseason?

The circumstances of the club being open with wanting to recruit a keeper after losing patience with the form and fitness of Boruc and Begovic, but running out of time to do so, so going with Ramsdale as the 'best of a bunch'.

Apparently United have been told if the want Hendo back on loan they'll have to cover his full wages possibly 100k per week. Ramsdale would be a good buy but 15m would be tops and that's too high IMO, as for Cakir is it? United agreed 20m euros now their chairman wants 22m I'd tell him to take a long walk off a short pier.

Tindall, But when a club Man City come calling for you, players like that go with your blessing.

But when littl ‘ol SUFC come calling we’ll try and take yer pants down.

Ramsdale is not worth big bucks. Save the money and spend some of it on Hendo's wages for next season

I was looking at his stats and he actually performs very well. Right near the top and beating hendo in saves, punches, and equal on high claims. They have obviously conceded more goals but that has a lot to do with the defence as well.

i wouldn't write this off as a waste of money.

I should fucking think not!!
The kid will play for England, and is an outstanding keeper now, but with another couple of Prem seasons behind him he will be right up there with the best.
Best keeper we have brought through since Hodgkinson.

Ramsdale is average statistically and doesn't pass the eye test. I've watched 90 percent of Bournemouth's league games this season and he's far from the finished product. He has a lot to do which perhaps clouds people's judgement. It's often the case with keepers from relegated sides. Potential sure but not more than 10 millions worth imo.

Buy out clause wasn’t it?

Fixed it for you

I watch almost every Premier League game on DAZN Canada. Most Champions League games too.Yes, I'm obsessed, but also informed 😉. As for MOTD, I only saw the one after the opening day Bournemouth game.No time for highlights of any sport.

I was literally looking at his stats last night and the key ones for a keeper he was right up there. Which stats are you referring too?

It was a table someone posted on here. I think it was based on xg rather than a specific breakdown of goalkeeping attributes. He was about mid table, Cakir was third or fourth. Henderson was up there but not as high as Cakir. Maybe somebody will post it again?...

Not sure what may constitute "passing the eye test" or what value that has, but for £10 Million he'd be worth bringing back and loaning out if we get a better short term options in. He certainly seems like he could be a decent or even very good Premier league keeper, given he's only just 22 and there is talk of Man Utd paying a similar keeper who's probably a year ahead of him 100k/week and they would certainly want £25 Million plus for him right now.
If we could get him for £10M on a 5 year deal, I'd say that's a great bit of business for us.

Bournemouth value Ramsdale at £25 Mill and have already rejected £12 mill from us so for us to be spending that sort of money we couldn’t afford to not be buying a first teamer. Move on from Ramsdale in my opinion

You only know what the papers tell you. Only a few days ago we had apparently bid £12 Million for Cash and later it was revealed to actually be closer to £6 with add ons.
If Aaron can be secured for under £15 Million it should be seriously considered as a long term option, particularly if we do have another option in Hendo.

nopigfansintown I’ll have a scroll and find it, cheers

Realistically, what we need is a shot stopper. Coming for crosses isn't a priority in the way we play - with three at the back, it's less common for us to be conceding crosses, and when we do, one of the back three (or wing backs tucking in) gets there first.

Here's what the stats say (only up to January, cause that's all I can find). This is performance versus xGOT for PL keepers - how many more/less goals did each keeper conceded versus the an average keeper, given the shots they faced.

  • Ramsdale is pretty much bang in the middle of the PL, and pretty much =0 (concedes as many as you'd expect)
  • Up to Jan, he was better than Adrian, de Gea and Pickford, but not as good as Roberto (the calamity at West Ham), Matt Ryan or Guaita

And here's some stats on Cakir:

View attachment 87849
Note:
  • Of players to have played more than 3 games, he has the highest save % in the Turkish league (78%). It's a low bar, but you can't be better than the best
  • Most saves in the league, with 11% more saves than the second-best
  • Can't save penalties

What's the story?
  • Henderson was very good, as we knew
  • Ramsdale is fine, but we should expect to concede more with him in goal than Hendo per shot faced
  • The stats say Cakir is a top class shot stopper

It's Cakir for me lads.

Eye test is just measuring up stats against your opinion. It's not scientific by any means, but managers and scouts still watch games so it presumably has some use. The stats and my eyes are fairly in line when it comes to Rambo.

I was told that when Bournemouth originally came in for Ramsdale despite his improved contract, he didn’t want to leave and had to be persuaded at some length by his agent.

I imagine if Utd have put a bid in, he’ll be doing all he can to make it happen.

Signing him is a more sensible option than loaning someone who really wants to play elsewhere and has his wage set by his parent club?

Surely it should come down to ability.

Do you actually feel Ramsdale wouldn't be a significant downgrade on Henderson?

No I don’t actually, obviously we’ll have to wait and see, but a lot of Hendersons performance stats are due to the protection he is afforded by one of the Premier Leagues most organised and effective defences.

He‘s engineered a lot of goodwill from the fans by his badge kissing, goal celebrations and crowd interaction, but he is not by any means the complete keeper. Whilst he is a superb shot stopper, his positional awareness is suspect and his kicking isn’t great. What’s more, he doesn’t actually want to play for Sheffield United ?

So, I actually think, all things considered, that Ramsdale would be an upgrade in the long term.
