Looking back a year on, maybe it was the 'kick up the backside' that we needed. It didn't feel like it at the time. On 82 minutes, even a pessimist like me was looking at the league table showing that we were top. The next 8 minutes was mad. But after this game we have ground out a number of victories. How many leads have we given away since then? Off the top of my head, I can only think of Millwall and Manchester United at home.

I was pissed off at the time but I always looked at it as a freak result that came out of nowhere.

There were posters on here straight after that game, (I'm sure 'itsinyerblood' was one) who stated that this result could be the making of our season.

Very reasoned unlike many others.

If ever a game helped us to go up automatically it was that one, as others said it kidney punched the buggery out of us, much needed to give the club that vital kick on.

We went on a terrific run of clean sheets after that I think.

Gutted as I was at the time, I think that was the game that ensured we went up. We changed our style slightly, exchanging less possession for a more solid line up which meant we forced teams to do too much if they wanted to beat us. I also think it focused everyone on the job in hand & made sure we were not denied promotion.

Horrible in the away end for that 8 minutes. Villa fans to the left, right and above us, silent all game whilst we were giving it large. When the third went it and they exploded, there was nowhere to look.

It was certainly a kick up the arse we needed but it felt awful at the time. Everyone was right to question the team after that as I am sure Wilder did as well.

I stopped following it on my phone with about 10 mins to go, so sure was I that we had won.

Still, we can laugh about it now.

I can’t remember, it’s just a stat I heard on the radio, it’s probably bollocks.

Edit, yes it’s bollocks

Might have been “games we were winning at half-time”? Not sure what the number is but that one got used on TV coverage quite a bit, dates back to before Wilder took over

Remember it well. Was in LA and receiving goal updates on my mobile, having a coffee at HT with smile on my face and hopes high, then.......
More goal updates took the smile away 😐

Turned alright though in the end 😁

I maintain that that match is what got both teams promoted.

I'm still fucking furious about it though.

“Spineless bottling c*nts” was a phrase used by a couple of posters at the time. They don’t seem to come on here anymore, probably self harming after promotion and the success of this season so far.

The match v Middlesbrough a few days later was the clincher if we'd lost that who knows what might have happened but the result was the moment I started to dream, I was ecstatic that night.
