Watching the Blades, it looked like he was really popular with the rest of the team. Likes of Quinn and Billy seemed to look up to him.
0 -2 down home to the pigs, he came on as sub 2-2.
Beattie flu ???.
Just does not bear thinking about.

Talented nobhead by most accounts. Nothing wrong with that as long as you don't spend all your money on him. Not his fault

Met him when he signed back for us under Wilson at the meet and greet thing in the club shop seemed a nice guy and was one of my childhood favourites
Was gutted when things didn't work out for him here a second time tbh

Banged em in but was symptomatic of a post relegation signing splurge under Robson which was ill conceived and ended up with us sinking to L1 with numerous washed up has beens on the gravy train.

One of those strikers that could still score when we were playing a dire brand of football under Blackwell. Ask Billy how difficult that can be for a striker.

Will always remember the free kicks against Wednesday and away at Burnley. The one at Burnley was better than the pigs one

He was brilliant for us, the only plus point from Robsons reign. One of the best all-round strikers I've seen for us.

Agreed.

He's probably the best striker I've ever seen for the blades. I was still young for Agana and Deane (mk1). Missed out on Edwards altogether.

Wasn't as good as them Matt (for me anyway) but I can see why you'd rate him.

Nothing but good memories of his first spell with us - sadly nothing but bad ones second time round (that miss at MK Dons, red card vs Exeter - although imagine how bad that would have been if Wednesday had failed to win that day).

Probably the "coolest" penalty taker I've seen for us as well. I'm sure he missed one or two but I loved the style in which he took them and always felt completely confident he was going to score!

.

Not sure about that.
I remember loads of games where Billy seems to play out on the wing instead of up front.
Every now and again Billy would see a half chance and have the audacity to shoot.
Beattie would throw his arms in the air complaining why Billy didn’t pass to him.
He seems to think he was the main man and his team mates were only on the pitch to set him up.
Great player though and became our talisman, even though he seemed selfish on the pitch.

Would’ve been remembered with a lot more fondness if that volley in his second spell had just found its way under the body of the Stevenage goalkeeper

I would question people saying he's a cocky twat and billy big bollocks. Met him in vk bar in town and he was brilliant. Invited me and my brother to sit down with him and a his agent. Took loads of pics, bought us a pint and talked about all sorts. Top top bloke. Didn't he also personally pay off Accringtons tax debts?

I'm in the pro Beattie camp. Others will perhaps not like him so much, maybe because of his wages (any accurate figures ? Heard £27k per week and £9k per goal) Had the ability, nous and craft to definitely get us promoted automatically under Blackwell. Why was he sold?

Beattie is the most overrated striker I've seen at the Lane. He had half-a-dozen decent games at the start of the 07-08 season and another half-a-dozen at the end of that season, where he held his hand up, took full responsibility and looked a real handful. I remember watching him in those early 07-08 games and thinking f*** me we've got another Deano here. Unfortunately, apart from those dozen games, he didn't give a flying one, shirked his responsibilities and never put a shift in, didn't look interested at all and was quite happy to toss it off imo.

I remember being gutted in summer 08 when he was injured throughout the transfer window and we lost the chance to get shut and paid the price for it when we missed out on promotion. We copped for him for half a season in 08-09 where we were border line play-offs, once we got shut in January (we were 7th at the time), our form and results were the best in the division for the second half of the campaign.

That free kick against the pigs was priceless and an unforgettable moment in my years of following the Blades.

I met him at an away game at Burnley when he came and sat with the fans. Top bloke.

To give him his full title, Sir James is up there with Deano for me. There are certain players that just stand out and he was one of them. He would be the perfect striker for the current team and I wonder how much he’d be worth today ? £40 million maybe more?
