Clough for signing Coutts..

Adkins for signing Sharp...

..and to both of them for then fucking the hell off and letting someone in who was actually capable of doing the job.
clough for signing freeman and bashem freeman very key player for us all season, basham key player since the start of the new year

Love to see an accurate spreadsheet of what each spent on fees and wages, and recouped from sales. Think it would make interesting reading.

Major difference between Clough and Wilder, apart from bravery to try to win games, is that Wilder shows and believes that you can challenge to win automatic promotion from this league whilst still being a work in progress.

If Clough was still here we'd no doubt still be building and happy to finish 4th or 5th.

Also thanks for the proper day out at Wembley for a change .
At least we scored ..
Mr Clough .
Obviously promotion would have been better but we needed that cup run. It got a lot of people excited again at a time when we felt like we were approaching an all time low. Forget Wembley, Villa and Fulham away, Charlton, Forest. Fucking magic.
Now let's get promoted and beat them next season in the championship. (Not Charlton obviously, massive club that they are).

Clough definitely gave us some memries. But christ, the football was pretty dour.

Wilder's made a mockery of Clough in many ways, one of those being proving that it doesn't take years to build a promotion squad for Sheff Utd in L1 as Clough insisted it would. It takes one summer of good recruitment. Something Nigel and Simon the newsagent were incapable of. And it's not like Clough was hamstrung with poor budgets or lumbered with poor players on long expensive contracts, so there's no excuse.

For that suggestion I'm sure someone will post an entirely inaccurate one. Be careful what you wish for.

Interesting that both Coutts and Freeman were free to go after Tufty's original assessment of the squad ;)

They only got game time at all because Wilder was desperate. Credit to them for knuckling down and doing well and credit to him for getting this level of performance out of them.

Yep, I suspect it was a wages issue with Coutts and at the time and we still had Brayford so Freeman was probably seen as surplus.

I'm not sure Clough knows what to do with a good budget. I don't think he had one at Burton and I'm certain he didn't at Derby. He doesn't seem very adaptable.
