To start with get this African bollocks out of the way, never going to happen and a waste of the internet to debate it.

Today is a very sad day for our club. The one shining light and top assist provider within the 1st team has now been transferred to Hull City for a rumoured £300k. If his wages were the £14k (£728k per year) that was banded about over the summer then the club has made/saved £1,028,000.

This stinks of the Beattie transfer all over again, if the board hadn't shit a brick and panicked when Stoke come in and kept JB. The team would have pipped Birmingham to 2nd, being promoted and made £86.5million more than Stoke put in the bucket, FACT.

If the board had said that this season, Quinn is our designated player (to borrow a phrase from the MLS) and that everyone except him was for sale and adjusted the budgets accordingly then I would put my neck on the line and say that come may we would be celebrating promotion and the board would be celebrating a windfall of more than £1m.

Now who is going to pull the strings and make the runs, Flynn? Tonne? not fit to lace Quinny's boots or trim his Ginger beard. How is DW going to find 14 assists with his arms tied behind his back?

With the "I never told Danny he couldn't pick players because of money" interview in the star, McCabe has already shuffled poor Danny towards the kerb, ready to throw him under the next bus that comes along Shoreham Street.

The club and the fans are about to jump back in to the vicious circle of the fans giving up and not going to the lane because of the board selling the best players for cheap. Which in turn makes the crowds drop to 12/13k, which then gives the board the excuse of "we had to sell him because without 18/20k crowds we had to raise the money from player sales" and round and round we go.

I thought I'd seen the last of that when Warnock chucked everyone off it back in the early 00's.

Tomorrow's probable team with last seasons stats alongside.

Appearances / Goals / Assists

Howard 5/0/0
McMahon 39/1/4
Maguire 56/1/6
Collins 54/2/0
Hill 20/0/0
McAllister 25/1/1
Doyle 54/3/3
McDonald 38/3/6
Flynn 35/3/4
Cofie 13/3/na
Blackman 3/0/na

Total Goals 16
Total Assists 24

If that's a promotion side then Rodgers' Liverpool side is Champions League quality.

A couple of comments in response to that, our form picked up following Beattie's departure. We weren't showing signs of pushing for second with Beattie in the side, so why is it a given that we would have made second if we'd kept him. And also, why would keeping Quinn ensure promotion this season? It didn't last season.

It no surprise Quinn has gone his wages (and those of other players) are unsustainable in L1

No it didn't happen, but it nearly did. It wont even be nearly now.

Total over-reaction. I am sad to see Quinn go but many on this forum, other forums and in the stands have always slagged him off. It should mean some will be celebrating the fact he is leaving (or maybe not because maybe they can slag the club off again. He hasn’t had an assist or scored this season

After we lost at Wembley, Quinn was always going to leave ,this is no shock and shouldn’t be treated as such. We also expect Monty to leave. Again no shock and again will be celebrated by some as he is one of the scapegoats.

The question now is whether any funds will be left for a left footed replacement for Quinn who is good enough for league 1. It doesn’t matter at this stage if they are any better than that because if we do go up ,they will be whole changes in the squad similar to what the Pigs are doing now.

In 10 games time,we will see if we are good enough to challenge

Over reaction? I am saddened today no sign of anyone coming in (which is only to be expected) and another one of our better players leaving.

What is galling is the continual spin and bull shit that emminates from The Lane, big press release about an invitation to a mystery Nigerian to join the board. Well we can all send invitations it does not mean we will get replies. If we are about to get £500 million pumped into the Scarborough Group why are we still selling off the few remaining football assetts?

I fully supported Mr McCabe but now just view him as a just another business man looking after his own best interests at the expense of my football club. If he dropped the spin and told it as it was, we might all be more understanding but the fact is that as long as he has been a director there has been a history of big announcements as a smokescreen before the bad news arrives.

Personally I liked Quinny he was committed, he had the ability to be a good footballer and I cannot see a natural replacement. Gut feel? Danny's shit 2nd season record is about to continue with the complete support of Kevin McCabe.

why would keeping Quinn ensure promotion this season? It didn't last season.

This season's League One is piss poor compared to last, Quinn until today was the division's best player.

care to go into further detail as to what u mean?

You can not seriously believe a Nigerian will come in and splash half a billion quad on a property company in the middle of a worldwide economic slump? If you do, I feel sorry for you.

No funds will be available, the sale was to balance the books. At most a youngster reserve will be loaned in.

If we did spoz a promotion, the club is not in the Pig's financial position and won't be for a long time, there would be no mass remodel of the playing squad.

Over reaction??? What to losing probably our best player? are you real? Its fair comment.

Other forums and and some in the stands may have slagged Quinny off. Thats quite understandable as some people either haven't got a clue what they are looking at or spend too much time pre match in the Golden Bear, or dare I say both! And no need to wait for 10 games to see if we are good enough, without Quinny the answer is a resounding NO!

If we got promoted we would get an extra few million due to TV rights, sponsorship etc and a freshly trmmied wage bill which means we can get players in.

The key for me is whether there are any wages spare for DW to bring in any players. This seasosn will be difficult for DW as he has had to rebuild a brand new squad with 14 plaers (i think) now gone from las
t seasosn

Good luck to Quinny- at Hull and with Brucey he'll need it....
He is one of the most one footed players I have seen, But that is because on his one good foot he is really good, it's more noticeable.

I am praying we get someone in, on less money who is as good, however I know that won't happen.

My football club has gone from one I truly believed was well managed at board level, away from the football side, and most importantly stable.
But then a few shite appointments as managers and now looking at it closer we have been fed a lie or two, halftruths etc we are in the situation where we are in the third division, selling our best players, with a manager getting more pissed off as his hands are tied etc.
What is our future?????

I love the Blades but I feel as bad about them as I did in the Porterfield/ MeEwan era.
I just can't see where we are going?..

Quite simply we have to live within our means, regardless of the FFP rules.

We need a balanced wage structure and if one player is earning 2 or 3 times that of the rest of the TEAM then it doesn't work. We need to also bring our wages down so that we can have a squad, not a team with no back up. It is however, late in the day and we don't have chance to bring others in even if we wanted to... so, if we can afford it, its using the loan system again or preferentially, use the academy lads. Thats now in Wilsons hands. He has a budget for his playing staff, so he has to do what he has to do

We don't have to be the most expensive side in the division, we just have to be the best. Last season we came up short in certain areas

Get used to it? Dont talk nonsense, how can any fan EVER get used to selling off its best players?

We've done it for the last 30 years so like it or not we ARE used to it. It's what happens at BDTBL, always has and always will...

The blades have been selling their best players for year so i'm sure most are use to it. So unless United becomes a top 4 PL team, for your own health, you should get use to it

You are saying we are a 1 man team ? Quinn was always going to be sold as he is too good for League 1 and it was just a surprise it took this long for him to go. Anyone who thinks he wasn't going aren't really living in the real world.

DW has to find replacements and maybe change our formation (QUinn was playing in a free role-we may have to revert to a rigid 4-4-2. For me it would be more problematical if Collins or Maguire leave as we have no cover.

DW's managerial and recruitment skills(if allowed to recruit) will be severly tested

Are you for real ! As already has been said weve been doing for 0ver 50 years, Mick Jones, Alan Birchenall etc I think that is enough time to get used to something.

Its a sad day for blades, but totally expected.
My main concern here,is that monty will take his place in the side.
Not a good idea that-as quinn could pass a football-monty cannot.
Time for someone to step up to the plate and grasp this opportunity,be it a fringe player,or a new aquisition(unlikely).
Please please please dont begin playing monty again, not that he wont try-he`s just not our sort of player under wilson.
Thanks for the memories anyway Quinny,we`ll not be playing against you for many a year.

I am guessing some of you lot must be bits of kids to be suprised by this.As a 50 something I dont even get excited by news like this anymore.Since Jones and Birchinall in the 60s ,Currie and Sabella in the 70s ,Edwards and others in the 80s .Deane and Fjortoff in the 90s,Brown etc etc etc the club has off loaded at the worst possible time and have always softened the blow with a tale of incoming riches. Will it syop me going ,will it fuck.Get on with it ,you made your choice whenever you shouted "The Blades" for the first time over the alternative option.Move on nothing to see here.

May not have enjoyed some of it, but it about sums it up for me.

Get used to it, we are League 1 now, it's what happens...

Correct. Don't know what Worksop's crying about I've just paid £11 for me and the young 'un for tomorrow. Long live lower league football. Perhaps you should go and support Man Utd Worksop

YOU might be used to it I'M not, and I've been going since the eraly 70s by the way. Because it happens doesn't make it acceptable.
