Adkins privately gave up on promotion a few weeks ago knowing we were no where near good enough or ready.

What took him so long? I could have told him that when Gillingham trunked us 4-1.

He has started preparations for next season. He knows from his Southampton days what is required from younger players if they are to make the grade.

Really? What players would that be? And what's saying if they are that good, they aren't to be flogged?

So he has started to look at the best of the younger players now, instead of waiting for the summer or next season. That way he will know which will be ready for next season and what he needs to recruit.

Christ. We are rose-tinted, aren't we? What utterances from board level makes you believe Adkins will have any leverage when he approaches McCabe for proper calibre players (i.e. not Barry Oddnobs) only to find him just popping a nice, ripe cherry atop the flan he'll push in Adkins' face? I counter this - it'll be 'You already have players ... do something with them. Either sack them or make them good'. There will be no recruiting. Mark my words. If there is, it will be 'undisclosed' (i.e. don't tell the fans we got this useless bastard you never heard of for nowt)

There is no point in changing manager.

This we agree on.

Bringing someone new in will just start the whole process off again.

Also, this. It will make us look like cunts. Mind you, what with what has happened over the past three years, I doubt anyone's bothered. We have a lying board, ex-hooligan executives, rapist footballers, druggy midfielders and now wankers for supporters to reinforce that opinion.

Adkins will know by the summer what he needs. He will get it sorted and will succeed.

Really? I know what Sheffield United needs as well. So do many others. Whether that squares with McCabe is another matter. I don't doubt Adkins has a myriad of emails and text messages through his network of players who have done it at a much higher level ... oooh, Grant Holt, for example ... who would blow this division to bits. But hey! Let's put a Desso pitch in, yeah? Soz, Nige. Look at the new pitch! Ignore the results! The pitch! THE PITCH!

Yesterday's performance shows he's already progressing. He can build on the first 60 mins and address what went wrong after the goals.

Actually laughing at this. I couldn't give a fat rat's dick if we played like Barca for 89 minutes. We fucking lost. The mere fact that we apparently played slightly better than we have of late for a period and not capitalised on putting Rochdale on the back foot and shipped two goals tells me we haven't progressed ... at all. It tells me that teams like Rochdale can take their time to suss out the strategy, change their game and beat Sheffield United, and we have no ability or leadership out there on the park to recognise this. If it was there, when we went one down, the team would have countered and pressed and equalised, given the chances we squandered.

I would definitely give Adkins more time, he's done it before and can do it again. Remember what happened when Bassett first came. Even Ferguson had a nightmare at Man U when he first arrived.

This we agree on. Ferguson ... even Mourinho ... would struggle with this shower of Conference players. We have a few slightly above that, but Rochdale showed that the rest are playing way, way above their ability.
