I know we were far from convincing yesterday but never the less we scored three goals and we picked up three points so we have to be happy. You also have to give credit to how we bounced back from being pegged back, they deserve a bit of credit for that as well.

The 4 games on paper suggest an opportunity now to kick on and get some points in the board. The next four fixtures on my reckoning are against the 4 teams with the worse defensive record in the league so far and all of which haven't had the best start to the season so we have to be looking at taking points.

12 more points from this month will surely put us in a decent position going into a tougher November however if we can get a bit of form this month and get the confidence up then surely this will bode us well going forwards.

In my opinion anything less than 9 points from the next 4 fixtures will be a let down.

With Done back in the team, Adkins possibly leaning towards three in midfield and the fixtures we have, it is a good opportunity to get towards the top of the league. Thing is, every single time without fail when we look at a run of games and think 'plenty of points for us there', it never works out like that. Bury and Colchester at home is the most recent example. I'd be more than happy with 7 points from the next three or 9 from the next four.

Bury and Colchester, both at home in 4 days was a chance to kick on.

I can't possibly begin to get my hopes up or expect a result against anyone in this league, home or away. We can potentially struggle against the worst of teams.

I hope our strike force can fire us to some points and counteract our defensive and midfield frailties. If anything, there'll be some high scoring and exciting games.

I was just going to post the same - to be fair the only games I thought we were convincing were Peterborough away and Doncaster at home - other than that we have been distinctly average at best - even yesterday we were very fortunate to come away with three points !

We said all this before , always after a win . We just have to take on board we are inconsistant like the rest.

We finished up losing two home games , after speculating what points we could get . Old hat but take one game at a time , as who would put there mortgage on , that we will get 3 points at Oldham.

Agree . We will either win 3-2 or lose 3-2 , whoever we are playing . Entertaining yes , but satisfactory or covincing -no.

bury are a very good side this season , wigan needed them down to ten men to pinch a point
whats gone is gone , as the OP said its far more positive outlook with Done in , he stops the other side going forward in numbers ,
Why do we continually hark back to a poor result, do any of our fans know the meaning of the word
positive
We startted calling Clough negatiove Nigel but even at his worst he couldnt get near the negativity of some of our fans
if the club talk about fans like we talk about them theyd say we need to show more belief , works both ways

Bury are decent, but if anything I think Colchester looked even better against us.

So far, what this season has shown us is that teams with mobile forwards and midfielders, even if they lack skill can cause us massive problems. Off the ball, these players who many of us will never have heard of before are beating us to the ball more often than not, and running us off the park.

We could potentially finish in the top two as we are, mainly due to our ability to score goals at will when we want to, and the rest of the division being as, or even more inconsistent than us. Then next season we can properly reshape the rest of our team.

But, it's honestly a lottery right now, very unpredictable league. I wouldn't be surprised if we finished anywhere from 1st - 6th.

A series of winnable games coming up.

The other side of this is we have to play stronger teams at some point.

Walsall, Gillingham, Coventry all in April.

by April we should be in full flight
I have no fears now that Done Sharp and Adams can conjure up enough goals to push us onwards
2 astute signing s a centre back and a strong willed midfielder , we can ease out of this league

I believe thats what Adkins sees and is focusing on

Unfortunately we are going to have to wing it with the defence. It's just not going to get any better without making the midfield weaker by moving Basham. With the personnel available we need to put some workers in midfield who can cover runs, with Basham and Reed. At least that will give a little protection to the back 4. Probably would go with Baxter as the third given that Reed Basham and Baxter is also what finished yesterday and the Bradford game and it worked to a degree.

a wins a win
man utds title wins are littered with last minute goals comeback wins robbing points after being out played
dont see why should try and win a title different to any way its always been won
Bristol City wrenched tight wins in 15 games where they werent the better side last season
you have to win ugly a lot

Absolutely btl

However, it's so much more difficult when the defence gives away Xmas presents week in, week out

Would like to add tho, we are following in BC's footsteps in one respect. We definately haven't been the better side on a number of occasions :D

its v not just bristol city
every team thats ever gone up hasnt won every game 4-0
theyve ground out wins in dreadful games and commited daylight robbery in some
Name any of our previous promotions , weve won some real ugly wins
when we won at Leicester 5-2 to pass wednesday that was the icing, wed got there with a bucket load of ground out wins
many a game was a brian Deane late late winner, its how it is
Its very very rarely a procession

Charlton comes to mind for grinding out results , breaking a game up , scoring late goals . I dont think we have the players to win ugly . We will win by attacking football , but exposed at the back at the same time .

Adkins knows better than me , and if he believes we will get promotion ,i cannot argue with that .

I remember our run of 'easy games' at the back end of last year that people kept saying.
Absolutely. There's really no such thing as an 'easy game'. There were plenty of 'pundits' on here predicting easy games against the likes of Bury, Colchester and Port Vale - even Adkins!!! How did they turn out?

We are too inconsistent to be claiming that anything is easy.

To be fair, BTL, you're the polar opposite of those who hate everything the club do - admirable - but it doesn't really stimulate any sensible debate.

yep - crux of the problem. If we were "ready" to take this league by storm, then Bury and Colchester were the games.

The fact that their midfield did us both games, as did Rochdale yesterday suggests that we are no where near ready to push on.

I think there is steady, if minor improvement in the team and if we can get the ball up front then we look better than anyone - our midfield is the problem.

If we continue to have 5 goal games we will come off worst as many times as we come off best.

Plenty of work to do yet.

So it's the 19000 mugs fault.

Fuck me I've been going on about the defence and it was the fans all along.

Silly me.
