My understanding is that the Clarets Cup is a U17 competition so not officially a U18 game.

Always remember the old scoreboard at BL having the Utd reserves game as letter A , followed by whoever Wednesday were playing as letter B

When I started watching in the late 1940s there was a 1st team, 2nd team (which usually kicked off at the same time, and also an A Team. I don't remember anything about youth teams , but there were separate schoolboy competitions.
