Any ideas? Someone involved in the 16 that night? Alcock perhaps?

PORT Vale have made an approach to sign a player from Sheffield United, chairman Norman Smurthwaite has revealed.

The Vale chairman and owner had revealed he was at the Notts County v Sheffield United game on Tuesday night to have a look at a player.

Now Smurthwaite has clarified that the subject of his interest was a Blades player.

He has also made clear that he isn’t involving himself in scouting players. However, he wanted to discuss the player with United after he was recommended by Vale boss Rob Page.

On the same night, Page was at Doncaster v Crewe to check out Rovers ahead of their game at Vale Park on Saturday.

Smurthwaite posted on supporter website onevalefan: “I went to Notts to see a Sheffield United boy Rob had given the background that I liked, and also to discuss terms with their CEO as my experience has been that I am better placed than managers to drive demands down re costs and agree terms

“I am not qualified and do not ever believe I will be to assess players or pick them to play.”

Got to be Craig Alcock hasn`t it? I was surprised he made the bench on Tue, maybe the cameo at the end was his `audition`, surplus to requirements now we have Brayford, Flynn, Freeman, and Davies all able to play there.

What about Flo?
He was there last year till his injury.

Be no good him having a log-in on here then.

Alcock is probably fourth choice centre back behind Basham, McCevely and Kennedy.
Basham is one booking away from a 2 match suspension.
McCeveley wasn't risked against Notts County because he's carrying an injury (that's why Alcock was on the bench).
Clough made a point of praising Kennedy for playing consecutive Saturday and Tuesday matches for the first time in ages.
That suggests that he won't be able to keep doing it week after week for the next 2 months.
I think we will definitely need Alcock again before the season is out.

Agree, it'll be Flo for the reasons me learned colleague has posted, previously

Aren't you taking a huge risk there Stanny? - PC Brigade on your case yet?

Let's see what the forum JUG-O-METER says...

Looking quite risky, yes!

He was my first guess. Especially after Clough being quoted he was looking to offload him out on loan.

I imagine Clough will play Brayford at CB ahead of Alcock with either Flynn, Freeman, Davies or Coutts at RB
