Any ideas? Someone involved in the 16 that night? Alcock perhaps?
PORT Vale have made an approach to sign a player from Sheffield United, chairman Norman Smurthwaite has revealed.
The Vale chairman and owner had revealed he was at the Notts County v Sheffield United game on Tuesday night to have a look at a player.
Now Smurthwaite has clarified that the subject of his interest was a Blades player.
He has also made clear that he isn’t involving himself in scouting players. However, he wanted to discuss the player with United after he was recommended by Vale boss Rob Page.
On the same night, Page was at Doncaster v Crewe to check out Rovers ahead of their game at Vale Park on Saturday.
Smurthwaite posted on supporter website onevalefan: “I went to Notts to see a Sheffield United boy Rob had given the background that I liked, and also to discuss terms with their CEO as my experience has been that I am better placed than managers to drive demands down re costs and agree terms
“I am not qualified and do not ever believe I will be to assess players or pick them to play.”
