I have plucked and cooked wood pigeon killed by buses in Doncaster (no, not runover silly).

Lovely, wrapped in bacon, much more succulent than any I have eaten at a restaurant because restaurants tend to over-cook any meat to pander to the health & safety obsessed English palate.

I saw a woodcock in our front garden only last week and we are in central Donny ...... said bird, spatchcocked?, ungutted and skewered on it's own beak is a dish I have yet to eat.

Not quite as naughty as Mitterand's Ortolan I grant you, I'd be very interested to read that any of us had sampled that delicacy (after all, we are all using noms de plume here)...?
