Is a new goalkeeper.
Contenders:
richard O'Donnell:
Going to get it out there, ex Owl, most likely an Owl fan so probably won't sign. However he is an outstanding goalkeeper, whose contract is running out this summer at Walsall. I remember when he played against us and he was quite impressive. All looking at him on youtube, he's a great shot stopper, you might say wel of course they're gonna show his good saves in a montage but I don't see anyone making a montage for Howard. 17 clean sheets this season which is 3rd highest after Bristol's goalie an MK Dons'. Also if you look at his youtube clips, we need to sign Wednesday's goalie coach, its impressive and is 10x better than our current one if you were to base it on pre match warm up and the goalie's they've trained. I believe Wednesday's goalie atm was the best Championship goalie this season. The signing of O'Donnell would sort out our goalkeeping crisis for years to come

Wes Foderingham:
Arguably the best goalkeeper in league one over the past 2/3 seasons, and even though he let in 5 goals against them, they weren't the easiest goals to save. OG massive defeltction, superb header, tap in, header from about close range and a superb finish from Adams. This would be an expensive transfer however could be worth it, but again this one is highly unlikely, especially if Swindon go up.

Sam Johnstone:
Another young player who has done brilliantly this season. Currently on loan from Manchester United at Preston, who might sign him if they go up. But I doubt Manchester will need him next season so cold be an easy cheap buy and again a safe choice. However if Preston get promoted he'll surely go to them, if they want him.

These three aren't very likely to come to us, mainly because they aren't 5'2 Scottish and they've never played for derby. They'll be quite hard to sign however it’s what we need to be promotion contenders next season.
I've only done goalkeepers in our league, because I don't know league 2 and hopefully I never will and I don't think any top goalie would want to make the drop from the championship.
Also anyone else got suggestions?

I don't think the keeper is a priority, lets sort other positions out first and then if a good GK becomes available at a price that we can afford then snap him up, Howard would be a decent reserve to have as back up if required. I remember him coming in for Long and he proved his worth, maybe that sort of thing needs to happen again to regain his form.

So this coming after Clough announced that Howard will be a better GK next season

That tells you who's number 1 next season and also confirms how bizarre some of his statements really are

Actually he was backup to simonsen

He's not going to be a better goalie, unless you change something such as the training staff. If he isn't good enough now but can be better than it's obviously down to the coaching

No. And this is one where some of the fans really are having a negative effect.

Howard has been a good keeper all season. All of a sudden he's a scapegoat. That in turn affects his confidence.

He needs the very public backing of the manager. He's got it.

Howard also needs our very public support. Fwiw he's got mine.

He is if he sorts his back out. Howard's only been an issue since that injury, and it's been clear that it's affecting him because he's struggled to get down and I'd bet that he's kicked the ball out of his hands no more than five times since he's done it.

Hopefully a pre-season break does the trick, but back injuries are never simple.

The real requirements are two central defenders.

I expect Howard to return to form after a rest over the summer.

Mark Howard came in to replace George Long as GK on the 8th of Feb, the game after the debacle at Crewe, since that point he played 21 games and we only lost 4 of them, one of them against Hull, Long came back in for the Rotherham game when Evans was moaning about everything and our kids beat them, that is the only game he played after the Crewe shocker.

I would be happy to give him to January but some times you've got to wake up and realise not every injury can be fixed and on this website you seem to be scared of the truth, I remember last season near the end I posted on this website, we need to strengthen our defence as well if Mags goes we will suffer which we have, yet you all disagreed with me and a year later after we've suffered you've come the the relisation. We do need a new goalie, Howard is a perfect backup, a wonderful backup but not a first team goalie, especially for a team desperate for promotion.

Howard (this season) is the best keeper we have had since Kenny majority of goals he has conceded this season came out of a lack of height in set pieces leaving him open or just bad defending, my only concern is his back and if that will affect his performances in a considerable way.

A good goalie is on par with a good goal scorer .

UTB
Exactly and I don't think we've suffered in the goal area as much as before and we've definitely been let down by some bad decision making by howard and some at times poor keeping for a top league one side. And you can't blame it on his injury anymore because he wasn't good enough before however I agree he was good last season

Well it's not hard to beat the others

Get his arms fixed too, as they don't appear to extend for long range efforts :)
I thought I was the only one that saw this. That 1st goal for the Swindon 1st leg even though it was a good goal his arm wasn't extended fully and it could have been saved and any championship goalie would have saved it

Okay come back to me next year and tell me that we didn't need a new goalkeeper and I'll buy you a kinda Bueno

We've just got to hope that Clough doesn't only concentrate on the back four . We get the defence right and find out the problem is now with the goalkeeper . It does look more and more , that Clough has got to build a complete new side next season , barring one or two players. I would like to see the Chesterfield fella in the net.
