A McGoldrick observation

Vastly overrated by many on here imo.

He drifts around a lot to no great effect , tries a lot of daft flicks and tricks which mostly don't come off and when given the opportunity to score usually fluffs it .

Benjamin Bloom has it right about him and he's a guy who clearly knows his football and has seen him more than any of us .

The fact that he came for free is irrelevant - the question is, is he what we need ?

The answer is no .

Totally disagree with that, I think he's exactly what we need in that position; he's an excellent second striker, which is vital for our system. He comes deep to get the ball, keeps us in possession, and is capable of breaking the lines with some of his clever touches. There are two reasons we got him for free: 1) his absolutely shocking injury record, and 2) his poor finishing. If he didn't have those issues he'd be a Premier League player, in my opinion.

It's frustrating how many chances he misses, and maybe OP is right about his best role being more in the Duffy role, but he still brings so much to the team.

I don't want to have a go at McGoldrick, but I'm beginning to see why he was available for free.
He's not a striker. He's more of a No.10 to rival Duffy. He missed 3 clear chances at Bristol City. Missed from 2 yards on Saturday and again from 6yrds tonight in the first half. Then straight after HT an air shot.
He's a VERY skilful player but his finishing is shocking (for a striker).

If he could finish, he would be in double figures this season without a doubt.

To be fair the goalie pulled off a great save last night

Hammond used to do that but it went unnoticed when he wasn’t on the pitch as well.

It is noticed when he's not on the pitch. Yesterday once he went off, we set back and Brentford scored. Against the pigs we didn't create anything once he went off.

Tad harsh but he could have double the goals he's scored this season.
.
You can say that of every player in football ever.
Name me a player you've ever seen score with every chance.
Statistically Ronaldo is currently the world's best goal scorer but he misses plenty

He lacks a bit of composure from close range and doesn't seem to generate enough power when shooting from further out.
He's good at getting his head on the ball but never generates any power.
I'll wager that Ipswich fans would love him to play 20 games for them this season though.

Bit harsh about his finishing tbh.

In the last two games he has seen his efforts thwarted with a few exceptional saves and goal line clearances.

It’s good that we can change our strikers and although he hasn’t been impressive in the last few games he can make the difference. Certainly was a great save rather than a miss.

Good squad player on a free but along with Sharp, Clarke and Washington I wouldn't be that bothered if all were gone in the summer. Need better and age isn't on their sides.

A strikers job is to score goals. He's had plenty of chances and his finishing is poor. General play very good but he's not a player that's going to get us promoted.
