I don't want to have a go at McGoldrick, but I'm beginning to see why he was available for free.
He's not a striker. He's more of a No.10 to rival Duffy. He missed 3 clear chances at Bristol City. Missed from 2 yards on Saturday and again from 6yrds tonight in the first half. Then straight after HT an air shot.
He's a VERY skilful player but his finishing is shocking (for a striker).

If he could finish, he would be in double figures this season without a doubt.

If he could finish, he wouldn’t be playing in the championship.

Personally I thought the chance tonight was actually really well saved by their keeper. I agree with what you say though, he is more of a link man than a striker.

He's never been prolific because he's not a centre forward....

He does have a tendency to hit defenders mind.

It’s not an observation, it’s a discription of McGoldrick’s career.

As already said if he could score goals he’d wouldn’t be playing for us. He’s be a PL regular and worth over 20 million.

He's done ok and he looks to have some nice silky skills when he's fit enough
But he is not a finisher at all

Just seen Leeds goal against Reading, three yards out and a man on the line and the Leeds player Barry Douglas slammed it in the corner and actually missed the defender with it

Then Mark McNulty missed a last minute penalty for Reading, the stupid twat

Wouldn't argue with the OP.

He lacks a bit of composure from close range and doesn't seem to generate enough power when shooting from further out. By rights he should be on 7 or 8 goals at least by now.

That being said he does have that special something and the ability to change a game with a touch of magic, most likely to set someone else up to score.

For a freebie he is a quality addition to the squad.

Has he even scored for them yet?

I was watching a season roundup of the Championship from 4 or 5 years ago when McGoldrick was at Ipswich , & in the Ipswich games they showed he was involved in everything they were doing & scored some cracking goals . I think he is still a very good player , but he has somehow lost his touch in front of goal.

McGoldrick is a quality player. Problem is he isn't a finisher ans he isn't an attacking midfielder either. He's a mystery, a good player that doesn't own a position?
He’s a drifter is mcdizzle just floats about a bit like Duffy

McGoldrick is class. A fantastic addition on a free. He oozes style and has a lot of substance to back it up. I love the way he glides around the pitch, finding pockets of space, deft little touches etc. What’s really impressed me is his attitude and work rate. You rarely find that in players like him. He has no problem kicking in defensively and is constantly moving. He brings a lot more positives than negatives.

He’s desperately unlucky tonight, that’s a fantastic save their keeper has pulled out. He should have scored against Rotherham though. And the penalty miss against Wednesday still hurts.

And we would never have been able to afford him.

I’m afraid that’s the market we operate in. “Slight seconds”. “Pre-loved” “Shop-soiled”. “Closing down sale”. “ Fire sale” “Ex-demonstrator” “High Mileage” “No log book” players, without a “Full pre-season service history”.

Tad harsh but he could have double the goals he's scored this season.

He would be perfect to play upfront in a 2 with a really clinical goal poacher who stays between the posts like...ermmm...

Vastly overrated by many on here imo.

He drifts around a lot to no great effect , tries a lot of daft flicks and tricks which mostly don't come off and when given the opportunity to score usually fluffs it .

Benjamin Bloom has it right about him and he's a guy who clearly knows his football and has seen him more than any of us .

The fact that he came for free is irrelevant - the question is, is he what we need ?

The answer is no .

/QUOTE]
What iv noticed is he NEVER puts his foot through the ball, he tries to side foot everything, even outside the box
